The greatest need of today is the need of Men and Women with strong
minds to make the right choice at the right time; men who will give leadership and
not wait for leadership to be offered in a platter; men who will make tangible plans
and execute them with courage to carry them out men who will not be bought or
sold; men who in their inmost souls are true and honest; men who do not fear to
call sin by its right name; men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to
the pole; men who stand for the right though the heavens fall.- Education

to use the time to the best of your ability, your time is important to you while you
are at school for two reasons; first, you are paying for it; second you have signed

an agreement Therefore, make use of the talent TIME which is given by the
Supreme God, while you are still young.

Youth is the time to lay up knowledge in those lines that can be put into
daily practice throughout the life. Youth is the time to establish good habits, to
correct wrong ones, to gain and hold the powers of self- control, to accustom
oneself to ordering all the facts of life with reference to the will of God and the
welfare of ones allow creatures.

Are You Ready?

5
YOUR MAIN OBJECTIVE

What is your goal in life? Do you know your abilities? Have you planned your
courses in line with your abilities?

The Holy Book says that a person building a house sits and counts the cost. Have
you counted the cost of your education? What is your objective in entering into this
expensive enterprise Education? What methods are you using to achieve your
objective?

Proper use of time is the most important factor in learning. Learning requires effort
and effort requires perseverance. If you love life and want to trace the right road.
Then do not squander time. If Time is one of the most precious things in the world,
then wasting time is one of the greatest Crimes. Do not waste time, but make use
of Time, to improve your life, for you will live on this earth for only a few years.

Never drift from the planned programme. Plan your work from day to day and
week to week. Discover the methods of study which are best suited to you.

Your Main Objective is getting a good education.

Remember: Slow and steady wins the race.

HEALTH

Maintain good health to be successful in your educational Endeavour.

Without health, no one can as distinctly understand or as completely fulfill his
obligations to himself, to his fellow beings or to his Creator.

Good health in your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional life is

necessary to do the best in your school or college work.

Be regular in eating, sleeping, studying and other personal habits. Attend to

illness immediately even if it seems minor.

Your mental health depends to a great extent on your physical health. This is
an important factor in leading a successful student life. Right physical habits
promote superior living! For, intellectual power depends much upon physical
stamina.

Cultivate the habit of meeting your daily problems calmly and honestly. Face
reality courageously. Do Not Avoid The Facts.

Remember that you are living a real life and not a Dream. Do your studies, dont
dream about doing them. Wishing will not make you a great man, He that lives on
hope will die fasting.

A well rounded personality will be yours if you grow up physically,

spiritually, mentally, socially and emotionally. Follow a balanced programme.

Worry is the worst enemy of humanity and is one of the chief causes of
inefficient study. Your main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but
to do what lies clearly at hand. History reveals that great men won victory by
fighting battle and not by wishing to fight it.

8
If you have worries talk them over with God in prayer. Ask, and it shall be
given. If you have had problems to solve, talk them over with someone you can
trust. Discussing your problems with your teacher, parents or friend will usually
put them in right perspective. Remember that good thinking always leads to logical,
constructive planning; but bad thinking leads to tension and nervous break-downs.
Do you want to Get triple benefits from your health? Then, remember the adage:
EARLY TO BED AND EARLY TO RISE, MAKES A MAN HEALTHY, and
WEALTHY AND WISE.

A WORD TO THE WISE IS SUFFICIENT.

BUILD YOUR HEALTH AND BUILD YOUR COUNTRY

STUDY ROOMS
Have a proper place in which to study. This is very important. As soon as
you enter into the place, you must feel that you are entering into the study room.
Keep your study room well ventilated. If you have a desk, see that the desk is in
good condition. The appearance of the desk and the location of it the room plays an
important part in conditioning your mind for study. If you do not have a desk, then
keep the place where you sit and study clean. Make yourself comfortable- but
avoid being too comfortable.

The light in your room is very important. Doctors and Educationists suggest
that the light should come from behind your left shoulder. Follow this wise counsel.
Do not keep your radio tuned in while you are studying. You can do only
one thing at a time efficiently. Select your study place away from traffic and
unpleasant noise. You have an important work before you.
Before you start your studies:

1. Set your desk or place in order for action.

2. Arrange all work material close at hand.
3. Keep a good dictionary within reach.
4. Keep the text- books and note books in their places in order.
5. Keep your Home Work Diary With You.
6. Have your pen and pencil in working order.
7. Never borrow any study equipment from your friends, sisters or brothers.
8. If you are studying with other students, respect their privileges.
9. Follow this order every day.

Be Honest with yourself in the Business of Obtaining a thorough Education.

PLAN YOUR PROGRAMME

10
In obtaining an education, you have to learn to budget time carefully: You
have at your disposal twenty-four hours every day-that is worth a lot of money
value-and you need to make use of these hours to improve your life. Make a
practical and reasonable time table and stick to it. Your schedule should include
hours for:

1. Meditation and Prayer

2. Classes
3. Preparation
4. Leisure- play, visiting friends and entertainment.
Allot time for class preparation each week as follows:
1. Middle School V-VII 20 hours
2. High School VIII-X 27 hours
3. College 25 hours

Divide your time in such a way that no subject is neglected in school and college
life. Remember that scholarship alone is not the objective in school or college life
though it is a most important one.

Do not study when you are tired. Take rest and refresh your mind and body.
Do not take part in too many outdoor activities. Think of the old saying: Too
much of anything is good for nothing. Your scholarship record at school must be
good. You should not do less than your best in school work. The record that you
leave behind in school or college cannot be changed. It is on the school files for the
rest of your life. Therefore Have a good Record and Take a Good Report with
you when you leave school.

11
Good results always depend upon the time that you spend in concentration.
When you sit down to study avoid day-dreaming. Forget everything else except the
one job at hand Study.

Create interest in your study. Interest is your greatest tool to promote

concentration. Investigate the relations between the old lesson and new lesson.
Never depend entirely on the knowledge that you receive in the class room. Read
everything you can to find out more about the subjects that you are taking. The
more you know about the subject, the more interesting it becomes.

Spiritual growth is equally important. The eminent educationists of India are

emphasizing that every student from a Democratic country should be taught
spiritual values.

Before you start your studies, meditate upon God, your Creator and
Sustainer. Whatever your religious faith may be, take time to pray to God. You
dont need to go anywhere, but just where you are sitting, without disturbing your
friends, reverently fold your hands and close your eyes and PRAY. Just ask HIM
to give you wisdom and understanding power, and HE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.
HAVE FAITH IN GOD, you have covered the general structure of the study
programme.

NOW BEGIN YOUR WORK.

12
READ WITH UNDERSTANDING

Reading marketh a ready man. Reading plays an important role in the

progress of a student. It is very essential for a student to cultivate the habit of
reading with understanding. Rapid and accurate reading is one of the most
important factors in scholarship. The following suggestions will aid you in
developing adequate reading habits:

1. Read with a definite purpose.

2. Read with an inquisitive mind.

3. Read to answer questions such as Who? Whom? When? What? And How?.

4. Reading should vary in relations to the subjects.

5. Read to comprehend.

6. Read to enrich your word knowledge.

7. Read silently.

8. Read critically and accurately.

Keep in mind that you have to face examinations. Therefore, cultivate good
memory power. Ensure your-self that you can face examinations with confidence.

As you read, find the main points by reciting them to yourself. Note difficult words
and technical terms and learn their meaning. It is advisable to keep a note book to
jot down new words. Review them often.

USE THE DICTIONARY. Carelessness cannot achieve speed and accuracy

in reading. Intelligent reading is a process which requires patience and curiosity.

13
REMEMBER, you have signed a contract to do your part faithfully in pursuing
your studies.

NEVER GIVE UP!

14
STRENGTHEN YOUR MEMORY POWER

Learn to remember with understanding. No student can keep up with the

study assignment without remembering. Your success depends greatly upon your
memory power .Practice the following simple rules:

1. Exercise your memory power by remembering the names of your friends and
classmates.
2. Make an impression of the material on your mind in a clear cut manner.
3. Remember by association.
4. Think about the subject material you are studying.
5. Create interest in the material.
6. Train your ear while learning a language.
7. Write WELL, READ WELL. Speak correctly with a definite aim.
8. Take part in class recitation.
9. LOOK, LISTEN, THINK and ACT.
10.Recite with understanding.
11.Self TESTS are good.
12.Have faith in your ability to remember.

During your learning period, give yourself short rest intervals. These short
intervals will refresh your mind. Cultivate your own technique to improve memory
power.

REMEMBER, YOU ARE IN YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

15
16
TAKING NOTES AND THEME WRITING

To get the best out of your text books, cultivate the habit of skillful note- taking.
Many young students do not cultivate this habit, and as a result. When they go to
college, they are handicapped. Keep in mind the following points for taking notes:

1. Your note-book Keep one note book for each subject; have uniform sized
books for all subjects.
2. Do not tear pages from your book.
3. Protect your books by covering them with paper.
4. Have proper margins on each page. (This must be done well in advance.)
5. Drawing rough sketches of any kind should be avoided.
6. Value your notebooks.
7. Write legibly.

When you have a note book ready for each subject you are ready to take notes.
Skillful note taking is a MUST in getting the most out of your text books. Take
good notes from the beginning. In taking notes, you have three sources to depend
upon: your teacher, text books and library. Listen to your teacher carefully in the
class. Discipline yourself to listen attentively in the classroom. You are paying
MONEY to listen to the teacher. Underline ONLY the high points of a lesson and
do not simply draw lines for underlining. Some students just mark aimlessly any
phrase or word. This kind of careless marking will not help you in writing notes. It
is dangerous to underline everything. The secret is to UNDERLINE just enough to
make the important points outstanding.

Write your notes clearly. You must be able to read your own handwriting. No one
is interested in your notes when they are not written properly and legibly. Have

17
your own method to write notes so that you can review the high points at a glance.
Skillful note taking pays you a big dividend in the long run.

Note taking helps you:

1. To remember what you have learned;

2. To understand what you have read and heard in the classroom.
3. To become more efficient in your subjects;
4. To secure good marks in your subjects. The time that you have spent in note
taking is not wasted.

THINK MORE WRITE WELL.

18
THEME WRITING

Sooner or later you will be asked to write themes. Therefore learn to write themes
while you are studying in secondary school.

Remember that through effective expression oral and written you convince
people to see your point. Knowing this fact, you should take pride in theme writing.
Remember the following points in theme writing:

1. Select your subject ( when you are asked to select your own)
a. according to your interest
b. Offering sufficient scope for thought to cover the space given.
c. Symmetrical in depth, breadth and length.
d. Of practical importance.
2. Prepare the outline in logical order.
3. Use cards to collect materials and notes.
4. Submit your assignment on time.
Take warning from the following proverb: WANT OF CARE DOES US
MORE DAMAGE THAN WANT OF KNOWLEDGE.

19
REVIEWS

After studying each subject lesson, spend some time in reviewing the
high points. Recall the important questions which deal with the key topics in
the assignment. You have covered all these topics and now you are testing
your confidence in your memory power. It is good to test the alertness of
your memory power now and then. We cannot set a hard and fast rule to
review the material that you have covered. You have to use your own
method.
The more thorough you are with your subjects, the better for you. Adopt a
method and practice it. Make it a point to spend at least one hour each week
reviewing every subject. Study and review must be simultaneously done
throughout the school year. There are no gains without pains.

Tests and Examinations

You cannot escape from examinations. Do you know that you are
writing examinations everyday in one form or another? Life is a succession
of examinations. Examinations are good for us, for they point out our ability
and weakness. They measure our progress. Therefore, do not shun
examinations, but prepare for all the examinations from the very beginning.
If you want to score good marks in your examinations,
1. Prepare for the examinations from the beginning.
2. Start all your study periods with a brief review.
3. Rely upon your own ability and knowledge.
4. Go to the examination with a clear head and a well rested body.
5. Read the instructions given on the question paper.

20
6. Follow the instructions.
7. Read the questions well and understand them.
8. Write legibly.
9. Keep your answer papers clean and attractive.
10.Number the questions and the pages of the answer paper.

Now you are ready to start your Examinations

21
CHEATERS

The word cheating should be removed from your dictionary. If you are
true to yourself, honest with God and love your fellow-students then will never
enter into the trap CHEATING. Do you know the results of cheating? It brings:

1. Unhappiness among students;

2. Disappointment to the parents;
3. Frustration among teachers;
4. Many academic failure
YOU DONT WANT TO BE A CHEATER. You want to pass your
examination with honour and courage. A cheater may get good grades through
cheating if the deception is successful for a time; but his progress will be limited.
He cannot attain his ultimate aim in this way and he will stumble and fall
somewhere along the academic road. You have a purpose in life and you can
achieve that purpose only if you reach towards YOUR LIFE GOAL honestly.
CHEATING does not help anyone. Tell this to your friends so that they too may
keep their scholastic records clean.

22
SUCCESS IS YOURS

You are looking forward to the day when you too can join the
group of students who will be marching through the doors of your
school or college with their certificates or diplomas. That day is not very
far away if you make up your mind to follow the steps described in this
book. Your success depends upon your study habits and hard work. Do
not live in the hope of doing your work tomorrow, because one today is
worth two tomorrows; Those who live upon hope will die fasting. It
is always better to do part of tomorrows homework today.
Life is too short to play with. You have invested a lot of money in
your education and you must get the most out of it.

Students are wanted everywhere to build the society, country and at

large, the nation. But what kind of students are wanted? Students who
would
Develop in them the sense of responsibility;
Have learned to discipline the mind and body;
Build enduring character;
Uphold social standards of the country.

Such students are in great demand.
