The ArcSight Log Management Platform has three logical layers for managing log data:

ArcSight SmartConnectors form the first layer. They collect and normalize events into audit quality (CEF) data within the network and
securely pass the log data to Loggers. Loggers can also collect raw event data directly from network devices in the form of event logs, or
Syslogs, which are supported by many Logger receiver types.
ArcSight Loggers, the second layer, store the data in a cost-effective manner and make it accessible for simple and intuitive analysis.

Arc5ight Foundation and ClPs {Compliance insight Packages}, which form the third layer, provide content for specific Use Cases, such as PCI
(Payment Card Industry), and SOX [Sarbanes Oxley) compliance. Users can install UPS to gain specific compliance and regulatory monitoring
and reporting capabilities. Logger also comes pre-configured with an array of common usage event filters and report categories.
