Letters to the editor policy

Unified Newspaper Group is proud to offer a venue for public
debate and welcomes letters to the editor, provided they comply with
our guidelines.
Letters should be no longer than 400 words. They should also con-
tain contact information the writers full name, address, and phone
number so that the paper may confirm authorship. Unsigned or
anonymous letters will not be printed under any circumstances.
The editorial staff of Unified Newspaper Group reserves the right
to edit letters for length, clarity and appropriateness. Letters with
libelous or obscene content will not be printed.
Unified Newspaper Group generally only accepts letters from writ-
ers with ties to our circulation area.
Letters to the editor should be of general public interest. Letters
that are strictly personal lost pets, for example will not be print-
ed. Letters that recount personal experiences, good or bad, with indi-
vidual businesses will not be printed unless there is an overwhelm-
ing and compelling public interest to do so. Letters that urge readers
to patronize specific businesses or specific religious faiths will not
be printed, either. Thank-you letters can be printed under limited
circumstances, provided they do not contain material that should
instead be placed as an advertisement and reflect public, rather than
promotional interests.
Unified Newspaper Group encourages lively public debate on
issues, but it reserves the right to limit the number of exchanges
between individual letter writers to ensure all writers have a chance
to have their voices heard.

This policy will be printed from time to time in an abbreviated form

here and will be posted in its entirety on our websites.

Moving to the music

The Musical Pathways Foundation held Kindermusik, a music
and movement class at the library on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Children ages 2-5, and their accompanying adult, were invited
to sing, dance and move with the music.
Kindermusik is a developmental program that promotes cogni-
tive, physical, language, social, emotional and musical develop-
ment in young children, according to its website.
The Musical Pathways Foundation is a nonprofit with several
locations around the state, including one in Verona.

Scullions garden wins beautification award

The garden of Jerry and
Madonna Scullion at 1027
Tamarack Way has been
selected for the Sugar River
Garden Clubs annual civic
beautification award.
This award aims to rec-
ognize residents who beau-
tify their property and help
make Verona a great place
to live. The Scullion garden
enhances the neighborhood
with a cheerful greeting,
whether walking or driving
past it.
Madonna made it very
clear that Jerry does the
majority of gardening on
their property. The garden
extends across the front
of their two duplexes. It is
very colorful due to a nice
blend of perennial and
annual flowers. The patio,
highlighted by a bright red
climbing rose and chairs, is
most inviting for entertain-
ing and relaxing.
The Scullions moved to
their home in 2001, so the
garden is well established.
Jerry said he grew up in
Dodgeville, but he did not
know much about garden-
ing until he worked profes-
sionally, managing super-
market produce. This led to
making floral arrangements
for weddings, funerals, and
social events. His garden- Photo submitted
