Course Description
Prerequisite: None
This course enables students to further explore and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in the
elementary science and technology program. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products
and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools,
equipment, and software commonly used in industry. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and
societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways leading to
careers in technology-related fields.

Note: Schools may offer broad-based courses, using the expectations provided here for Exploring Technologies, that focus on a
particular subject area within the technological education curriculum. Brief descriptions for courses in each of the subject areas
are given below, along with the course codes assigned to them. For more information about the delivery of such courses, see
pages 1013.

Curriculum
Students final report card grade will be based on the evidence provided of these overall curriculum expectations:

A. TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGY FUNDAMENTALS


A1. explain how engines work to produce power, and identify the function and explain the maintenance
requirements of the cooling, lubrication, and fuel systems;
A2. identify the major components and describe the function and operation of various types of drivetrains;
A3. identify and describe the major systems and components of vehicles, aircraft, and/or watercraft;
A4. demonstrate an understanding of the technical and mathematical knowledge and skills required to
properly maintain and repair vehicles, aircraft, and/or watercraft.
B. TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
B1. use problem-solving processes to design and fabricate a project that converts and uses energy, and to
address various problems or challenges related to vehicles or craft;
B2. demonstrate the safe and correct use of a variety of maintenance and repair techniques for servicing
powertrain components;
B3. perform basic service on various vehicle, aircraft, and/or watercraft systems and components;

B4. follow correct procedures for the preventive maintenance and care of vehicles, aircraft, and/or
watercraft.

C. TECHNOLOGY, The ENVIRONMENT, and SOCIETY

Academic Standards
It is your responsibility to provide evidence of your learning within established timelines. Due dates for
assignments and the scheduling of tests will be communicated well in advance to allow you to schedule your
time. If you arent going to be able to follow an agreed upon timeline you should demonstrate your
responsibility and organizational skills by discussing with your teacher the challenges youre facing as far in
advance of the deadline as possible.
It is your responsibility to be academically honest in all aspects of your schoolwork so that the marks you
receive are a true reflection of your achievement.

Plagiarism is using the words, ideas or work of someone else without giving appropriate credit to the original
creator. This is a form of cheating.
Consequences for not meeting these academic standards may include:
Reporting the issue to your parents;
Requiring you to complete the original or alternative work after school or during your lunch hour;
Requiring you to complete an alternative assignment;
Suspension;
Assigning a zero for an assignment not completed prior to an agreed upon closure date;
Mark deduction of 5% / day.
