Annexure -A calculation
Calculation of Tp for zone 1 end faults

Apart from rated short time rating of the system, to arrive at minimum knee point voltage, value for time constant or (X / R) ratio and steady state
through fault current values needs to be determined. Considering the rated capacity of the bus bars of 400kV, the fault level considered is 50kA.
The time constant (X/R) is taken as maximum of the breaker capacity or actual network X/R. As the CT calculation is being performed at rated
breaking capacity of the breaker, the breaker will not be able to handle any time constant beyond, the breakers DC capability. Therefore, the CT
cannot have a stringent case than the rated capacity (symmetrical and DC breaking). Therefore CT calculation is being performed considering the
time constant derived from the breaker capability.
