Para obtener el comparativo aadimos el sufijo -er al adjetivo: tall taller; cheap
-cheaper
Para obtener el superlativo, utilizamos la estructura the + adjetivo + -est: tall the
tallest; cheap the cheapest
o Ortografa del comparativo y del superlativo con -er y -est:
1. Cuando el adjetivo acaba en -e, solo se aade la -r o -st: nice nicer the
nicest
2. Cuando el adjetivo acaba en vocal + consonate, la consonante se dobla:
fat fatter the fattest; thin thinner the thinnest
Los adjetivos de dos slabas:
Hay varios tipos de adjetivos de dos slabas:
o Los adjetivos que no acaban en -y y siguen las reglas del comparativo y del
superlativo de los adjetivos de una slaba: narrow- narrower the
narrowest; quiet quieter the quietest
Adjetivos irregulares:
o good better the best
o bad worse the worst
o far farther / further the farthest / the furthest
o old older / elder the oldest /eldest
o little less the least
o much / many more the most
farther se utiliza para distancia: London is farther from Barcelona than Paris.
further se utiliza con el significado de adicional: Dont hesitate to tell me if you need
further information.
elder / the eldest se utilizan nicamente para comparar los miembros de la familia: My
elder brother lives in Scotland.// My eldest sister lives in Madrid.
