Zanuck Kapala Lindsey

Raised in tranquil Pauoa Valley, Oahu, Zanuck Kapala Lindsey


graduated from the Kamehameha Schools and earned a B.A. in Music
from California State University at Northridge. Zanuck has been a
professional musician, bandleader, teacher, composer,
producer, and contractor for 30+ years.

He has traveled extensively, performing internationally. A few


highlights have been performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie
Hall, Irvine Meadows, Shoreline Amphitheater, Aloha Stadium, Tokyo
Dome and the Oneness Center in Golden City, India to mention a few.

Zanuck has shared the stage with Tony Bennett, Larry Carlton, Lee
Ritenour, Chaka Khan, The Doobie Brothers, Isaac Hayes, The Captain
& Tennille, Tower of Power, Pauline Wilson, Yvonne Elliman, Jim
Belushi, Merv Griffin, Lou Rawls, Azure McCall, and La Boheme and
Rigoletto with the San Jose Symphony Orchestra.

He has performed on stage as a vocalist, composer and sideman for


many important recording artists from Hawaii (1995 to present); Don
Ho, Danny Kaleikini, Hula Joe & the Hutjumpers, Israel
Kamakawiwoole, Kalapana, Cecilio & Kapono, Na Leo Pilimehana,
Fiji, Kealii Reichel, Hapa, Genoa Keawe, Amy Hanaialii Gilliom, Willie
K, Melveen Leed, Loyal Garner, John & Ernie Cruz, Nathan Aweau,
Raiatea Helm, the Makaha Sons, Matt Catingub & the Honolulu
Symphony, the #1 Japanese Pop bands, Exile, J-Soul Brothers and
Arashi, and countless others.

Zanuck has performed with or had onstage opening performances


with Bon Jovi, The Spinners, The Four Tops, Ben Vereen, Diana Krall,
Elvis Costello, Sheena Easton, Al Jarreau, Three Dog Night, Huey
Lewis and the News, Santana, Michael DcDonald, James Ingram,
Gloria Gaynor, Candi Staton, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, Deniece
Williams, Deborah Cox, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wynton Marsalis,
Branford Marsalis, Michael Paulo, Pauline Wilson of Seawind, Rick
Braun, Dave Koz, Brian Culbertson, Bobby Caldwell, Sheila E, and
many more!
His original song, Heat of the Night won 1st place in the 1987
National Songwriting Contest sponsored by Budweiser and Capitol
Records. In 1999, his solo record For Every Heart was nominated
for Best Contemporary Album in Hawaii.

Zanuck was awarded the 2000 Na Hoku Hanohano Best Jazz Album
for Hula Joe & the Hutjumpers on Black and Tan Records.

As a producer, Zanuck has 8 cds to his credit including Only You


by Hoomalie. That was nominated for the prestigious Na Hoku
Hanohano Best Hawaiian Language Performance. In 2013, his present
group, Kapala, garnered a Hoku nomination for Best Island
Contemporary Music album of the year. In November 2016, Zanuck
released his latest cd collaboration with cousin Ron Kualaau entitled,
KOKO on Kapala Music.

As a music educator, Zanuck travels the world teaching music


through the ukulele. He has worked with esteemed ukulele masters
Kimo Hussey, Daniel Ho & Herb Ohta, Jr., James Hill, Jake
Shimabukuro, Benny Chong, Byron Yasui, Bryron Tolentino and
taught in Japan, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and
Australia
