The movie tells the true story of a Spanish family that travels to Thailand to spend

Christmas and go through the traumatic experience of being dragged apart by a tsunami.

The plot is basically how the father and his two boys struggle to find his wife and his

other son.

The protagonists are Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

The antagonist in this movie is not a person but nature in the form of a tsunami that

destroyed all that it found in its way

7. Give a brief summary of the movie.

The movie is about a family that travels to Thailand to spend Christmas. While having a
great time at the pool of the hotel they were staying the family heard an awful sound and

saw a huge wave that came and took them all under water. The mother was able to

find her oldest boy and was rescued and taken to a hospital. The father also was able to

find the other two boys and found someone to watch them while he went in search of his

wife. Miraculously all five members of the family survived and were able to find each

other at the end.

On December 26th, 2004 along the coast of the Indian Ocean an earthquake of a

magnitude of 9.1 on the Richter scale occurred. It affected various countries including

Indonesia, India, and Thailand. Over 229,000 people died in the aftermath of the

powerful earthquake.

9. What did it cause? Explain.

The earthquake caused various tsunamis in the region. The tsunamis destroyed

everything in their path and killed hundreds of thousands of people along the coast of

the Indian Ocean and countries like Indonesia, India, and Thailand.

10. What kind of damage it produced? Explain using concepts learned in class.

As the crustal plates slipped during the earthquake, some of the surrounding islands

in the subduction zone grew as they were lifted above the water line, while others

tipped over and partially submerged as they subsided.

The most impressive thing for me in the movie were the special effects they made

the tsunami look very realistic and the actors really portrayed the desperation that the

family went through while going through such a horrific experience in a way that

made me relate very closely to them.

It relates to the subject of earthquakes, in the movie you can really observe the damage

such an earthquake and subsequent tsunami can do.

18. What moral values are found in the movie? Name at least 3. Explain yourself.
First we see courage when the man risks his life to save the lady and her son who

were total strangers. We also see the love between the family members and how the

husband never gave up looking for his wife. Kindness is another value that shows

throughout the movie, first we see in on the strangers helping each other and later

when the mother asks her son to tend to others instead of staying by her side.
