Foreword

Section 4 of the Republic Act No. 10533, The Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 states
that:
Basic education shall be delivered in languages understood by the learners as the language plays a
strategic role in shaping the formative years of learner.
For kindergarten and the first three (3) years of elementary education, instructional teaching materials
and assessment shall be in the regional or native language learners.

Studies show that the language(s) used in the classroom greatly affects the childrens
opportunity to learn. By using the mother tongue-based (MTB) reading materials, the children have the
opportunity to demonstrate what know, ask questions, participate in the discussion and freely express
their ideas and experiences.
This supplementary reading material in mother tongue is intended for the pupils in the primary
grades. May through this story book, the pupils in their formative years will learn how to read and will
be given the opportunity to interact with their peers, share ideas, and develop desirable values that
could shape their character and be better citizens of our nation.
I hope that our primary grades pupils will enjoy reading this story book and their love for
reading will be developed
