What End Do We Have in Mind
Beginning with the end in mind means having a sure
direction in whatever we do.
What do you want people to say at your funeral?
Who remembers you for what?
Applies to all segments of our lives.
Works just as well for organizations.
All Things Are Created Twice
We create things in our mind first.
We must build an idea of the finished product before we even
start on the project.
Most problems are found during this stage.
Measure twice, cut once.
Then, we must build.
Sometimes, the blueprints are not made by us, but they still help.
Our circle of influence greatly expands when we do this.
Habit 1: Be the creator Habit 2: Start creating
Again, applies to all areas of life.
Note: This does NOT mean that the finished product will look
the same as the blueprint.
Two Generals: Two Paradigms
Management Vs Leadership
Management: Management in business and organizations is the
function that coordinates the efforts of people to accomplish goals
and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively.
Small picture Small victories
Can do a lot of things very quickly and very well
Might not go anywhere
Leadership: Leadership has been described as "a process of social
influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others
in the accomplishment of a common task".
Big picture Big Victory
Coordinates an entire body to do something
Always going somewhere
This is the difference between efficiency and effectiveness.
Find Your Center
What your life
revolves around.
Your personal
effectiveness draws
directly from this.
Security, Guidance,
Wisdom, and Power
will ultimately
emanate from this.
How is this
dangerous?
Center on Principles
Rescript Yourself
First step of personal
leadership is having
the power to rescript
your life.
Leads back into the first
habit
Requires our self-
awareness, imagination,
and conscience
If you have the power,
use it.
Steps Towards Personal Leadership
Draft a mission statement.
Focus on the principles youre looking for, the more direct, the
better.
You must be able to visualize it. What do you want to be?
Affirm it. Speak truthfully to yourself on the matter.
Be personal, positive, present, visual, and emotional.
Use every part of your mind, creativity and rationality in
tandem.
Apply it.
Find your personal goals.
Think of how you can achieve them in each role you assume.
Share it.
The power of leadership does not end with the self. Make
everyone a part of it.
