NatWest Gibraltar Triathlon

Sunday 24th September at 9.15 a.m.

The NatWest Gibraltar Triathlon will be held on Sunday 24th September 2017, starting at 9.15 a.m.
The Technical Area is in Eastern Beach, and the race will take place between Eastern Beach and
Sir Herbert Miles Road. We advise visitors to park at the Eastern Beach Car Park.

DISTANCE
The course is classified as a SUPER SPRINT triathlon, here covering the following distances:

Swim Bicycle Run


300 m 10 km 2.5 km
1 LAP 2 X 5km LAPS 2.5 LAPS

ENTRY FEES
Senior / Veteran: 10 or 13 in advance 15 or 20 on the day.
Relay Teams: 25 or 34 in advance 30 or 40 on the day.

ENTRY FORM
The number of entries is limited for safety reasons. If there are any places left over, Triathletes
may be able to register between 8:00am and 8.30 a.m. on the day of competition.

TROPHIES
Trophies will be awarded to the first three to finish in each category: Novice Female, Novice Male,
Practising Female, Practising Male and Relay Team. A trophy will also be awarded to the first-
placed veteran in the Novice Male and Novice Female categories,
All participants who manage to finish will be given a souvenir T-shirt of the event.
RULES
No bicycles with time-trial bars will be permitted.
Strapped bicycle helmets are obligatory during the cycle leg.
Swimmers will be allowed to wear neoprene wetsuits.
All athletes must wear a top for the bike and run sections
Drafting on the bike is permitted
Do not overtake a cyclist on the right hand side
Always cycle as much to the right as possible so that faster cyclists can overtake on the
left.

RACE CIRCUITS

Swim 1 Lap

The swim will start at Eastern Beach as detailed above and the
swimmers will pass one turn buoy keeping the buoy on the right
hand side. Once past the buoy the swimmers will continue to swim
back to the beach to the swim exit where they will then run up the
beach and into the transition area.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ABLE TO CONFIIDENTLY SWIM
AT LEAST 500M IN THE SEA

Once in transition athletes must first put on a t shirt/vest top (if they
have swum without a top) and then put on and fasten their bike
helmet. No athlete will be allowed to cycle without wearing a
top or with an unfastened bike helmet.
Bike Part 1

On exiting the transition area athletes will turn right on to Sir Herbert
Miles Road where they turn around a temporary roundabout before
heading up Sir Herbert Miles Road in the direction of the Caleta
Hotel.

Bike Part 2

Athletes will continue to cycle past the Caleta Hotel and then
continue past Both Worlds.
Bike Part 3

Cyclists will then turn just past the old Motorcycle Club and make
their way back down to Sir Herbert Miles Road towards Eastern
Beach where they will repeat the bike course to make up the 2 laps.

Bike Finish (yellow line)

Once 2 laps have been completed the athletes will return to


transition (Yellow line) and prepare for the run.
The bike course will be closed to traffic.
Run 2.5 laps

Athletes will exit transition and start the run section on Eastern
Beach Road, which they will follow to the roundabout at the end,
before running back towards the intersection of Eastern Beach and
Devils Tower Road.

After completing two laps, runners should continue into the final
section and the finish line at the end of Eastern Beach Road.
