1. INTRODUCTION

Communication from the past plays an important role in societies as it allows

interaction between people, companies and even companies. With the development
and urbanization of countries and cities, the need to be increasingly communicated
each other became larger.

With the invention of the telephone (1854 by Antonio Meucci) that revolutionized the
telecommunications market, the great distances had been reduced since this
invention allowed people to be most commonly reported; but this had no major
impact on the world as cell phones, invented by Martin Cooper in 1972, which has
changed how people communicate and even how it behaves.

Over the years cell phones have evolved drastically from being "bricks" (how they
were called by their large size and rectangular shape) and analog, to small and
digital functions such as sending text messages, color screen, camera, Internet
access, etc.

2. HISTORY

The origin of the cell phone goes back to the beginnings of World War II (1939),
which already looked remote communication that was necessary, that is why the
Motorola company created a team called Handie Talkie H12-16, which is a team that
allowed contact with the troops via radio waves at that time did not exceed more
than 600 [kHz].

It was only a matter of time before the two technologies Tesla and Marconi join and
give light communication by radio phone: Martin Cooper, a pioneer and considered
the father of the cell phone, he made the first radio telephone from 1970 1973, in the
United States, and in 1979 appeared the first systems for sale in Tokyo (Japan),
manufactured by NTT Company. European countries were not far behind and in
1981 a similar AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System) was introduced in
Scandinavia.

In 1985 he began to refine and shape the characteristics of this revolutionary new
system and allowing remote communication. So in the 1980s was reached to create
a team that occupied similar resources to Handie Talkie but was intended for people
who were usually big business and should be reported, it is where the mobile phone
is created and marks a milestone in the history of wireless components because with
this team could talk at any time, anywhere.

3. TECHNOLOGICAL EVOLUTION AND CONVERGENCE

The evolution of the cell phone has reduced its size and weight, from the first mobile
phone in 1983 weighing 780 grams, the more compact and higher performance
current service. The development of smaller and longer-lasting batteries, sharper
colors and screens, incorporating more friendly software make the mobile phone an
element much appreciated in modern life.

The advancement of technology has made these devices incorporate features that
not long ago seemed futuristic such as games, MP3 music and other formats, email,
SMS, PDA PDA, digital photography and digital video, video calling, browsing
Internet and even digital TV. The mobile phone companies are already thinking
about new applications for this small device that accompanies us everywhere. Some
of these ideas are: a means of payment, people locator and identifier. Always keep
in mind the great advances suffered from the first mobile phone to today. The stage
of evolution of cell phones can be divided into three generations:

3.1. First generation cell phones

The first generation ranging from the appearance of the first mobile phone in the
world market known as the "brick" (DynaTAC 8000X) to late 80s These were

5
characterized as analog technology for restricted use of oral communications. The
predominant technology in this generation was the AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone
System)

3.2. Second generation mobile phones

The second generation makes its appearance in the 90s, they are mostly digital
technology and have certain benefits highly valued as an extended battery life, ability
to be safer and more definition in sound. These phones, and some analog phones,
have the possibility was sending and receiving text messages (SMS) however, it is
not yet in recent years the "boom" of this tool in recent years has amassed so
amazing. A late fever occurs by cell phones, ordinary people were added to the list
of users, favored by the exchange rate and competition between different
companies.

3.3. Third generation mobile phones

It is characterized by previous technologies with new technologies incorporated in

cell phones. The popularization of mobile phones opens. In the years cell phones
are equipped with a chip, SIM card, which is entered all the information.

One of the most important causes of the expansion in consumption up to humble

capable of society is the presence in the GSM market in what is called "low range"
as the Nokia 1100, Sagem XT, Motorola C200 or telephones C 115, Alcatel,
Siemens and Sony Ericsson T106 A56, all at very affordable prices and surrounded
by promotions. However the need to belong, to achieve certain social status no
longer present, the cellular communication in addition to its use is not without a
nominal value of class membership, both young and senior executives who even
today continue benefiting from its services. Next to these "lesser" devices with an
infinite variety of digital photo camera, some minutes to allow filming, have color
screen, very fast Internet connection (EDGE), multimedia messaging (MMS) and
access to box e-mail (POP3).

4. CONCLUSIONS

With the development of this work is to make known the origin of cellular
phones, their evolution and useful applications because it has (almost
creating dependency).

In the 19th century Antonio Meucci invented the first telephone in the 20th
century Martin Cooper invented the first cell and made the first call.

10 years ago cell only served to call, now serve to make video calls, check
email, music playback and other formats, take photos, play games, Web
browsing, SMS and even digital television.

Earlier people who had money and executives were the only ones who could
buy a cell due to its high price and its reserved use, now cell phones have
more affordable and anyone can have a cell phone or have several.

Cell phones are now lighter, smaller and more ergonomic designs, square
and not as heavy as before.
