READ ALOUDS

1. Education, if looked at beyond its conventional boundaries, forms the very essence of
all our actions. What we do is what we know and have learned, either through
instructions or through observation and assimilation.

2. Matt Baron, the graduate student who led the three-year project at the University of
Cambridge, said that while it would never be possible to pinpoint the origin of
dinosaurs with certainty his findings placed the northern hemisphere into contention.
It may just be that dinosaurs originated in Scotland, he said.

3. Jamie Lorriman, who took the photo and is based in London, told Australias ABCthe
series of images he took showed the womans distress. The people who took on that
picture are being rather selective, he said. In the other picture in the sequence she
looks truly distraught ... personally I think she looks distressed in both pictures.

4. Politicians from other parties condemned Gaikwads actions and the video was
shared widely on social media, many pointing to the footage as an example of the
entitlement mentality of some Indian powerbrokers.

5. Orphaned at a few months old and nursed back to health by a local wildlife centre,
Paichits story has serious implications for critically endangered Sumatran elephants.

6. The Foundation for Sustainable Development works to counteract the effects of

poverty on youth development and education so that our partner communities can
sustain growth from one generation to the next. We recognize that caring for youth
and providing academic and vocational tools allow them to be contributing members
of their communities. Without sufficient support, children and their families cannot
overcome the abusive cycle of poverty and exploitation.

7. We rely on interns, volunteers, and donors to supply the human and financial
resources necessary to supply our partner communities with the tools they need to
properly care for and educate their children. Read about our Community Partners to
learn more about Youth Education & Development programs and opportunities in the
field with FSD.

8. Of all the academic disciplines, human resources is one of the newest. Yet for all its
relative youth, it has already become established as a popular degree course that
has real world value for thousands of students. It should therefore come as little
surprise that the demand for an advanced level of study has been so strong. To this
end, the human resources masters degree has become a much sought after
qualification.

9. The colors of the brightly illustrated cover with cutaway of the earth's core,
illustration of how a waterfall is formed and a mountain climber scaling a peak
caught the children's attention immediately. We had just finished Science units
regarding Glaciers and Weather.

10. Earth's atmosphere and oceans were formed by volcanic activity and outgassing that
included water vapor. The origin of the world's oceans was condensation augmented
by water and ice delivered by asteroids, protoplanets, and comets. In this model,
atmospheric "greenhouse gases" kept the oceans from freezing when the newly
forming Sun had only 70% of its current luminosity.By 3.5 Gya, Earth's magnetic
field was established, which helped prevent the atmosphere from being stripped
away by the solar wind.

11. Economic activity is spurred by production which uses natural resources, labor, and
capital. It has changed over time due to technology (automation, accelerator of
process, reduction of cost functions), innovation (new products, services, processes,
new markets, expands markets, diversification of markets, niche markets, increases
revenue functions) such as that which produces intellectual property and changes in
industrial relations.

12. Cattle did not originate as the term for bovine animals. It was borrowed from Anglo-
Norman catel, itself from medieval Latin capitale 'principal sum of money, capital',
itself derived in turn from Latin caput 'head'. Cattle originally meant movable

personal property, especially livestock of any kind, as opposed to real property (the
land, which also included wild or small free-roaming animals.

13. In vertebrates, the first part of the digestive system is the buccal cavity, commonly
known as the mouth. The buccal cavity of a fish is separated from the opercular
cavity by the gills. Water flows in through the mouth, passes over the gills and exits
via the operculum or gill slits. Nearly all fish have jaws and may seize food with them
but most feed by opening their jaws, expanding their pharynx and sucking in food
items.

14. In 1612, six years after the settlement of Jamestown, John Rolfe was credited as the
first settler to successfully raise tobacco as a cash crop. The demand quickly grew as
tobacco, referred to as "golden weed", revived the Virginia joint stock company from
its failed gold expeditions. In order to meet demands from the old world, tobacco
was grown in succession, quickly depleting the land.

15. Each strand of hair is made up of the medulla, cortex, and cuticle. The innermost
region, the medulla, is not always present and is an open, unstructured region. The
highly structural and organized cortex, or middle layer of the hair, is the primary
source of mechanical strength and water uptake. The cortex contains melanin, which
colors the fiber based on the number, distribution and types of melanin granules.

16. The carbon content of steel is between 0.002% and 2.1% by weight for plain iron
carbon alloys. These values vary depending on alloying elements such as
manganese, chromium, nickel, iron, tungsten, carbon and so on. Basically, steel is
an iron-carbon alloy that does not undergo eutectic reaction. In contrast, cast iron
does undergo eutectic reaction.

17. In amphibians and lungfish, the nostrils open into small sacs that, in turn, open into
the forward roof of the mouth through the choanae. These sacs contain a small
amount of olfactory epithelium, which, in the case of caecilians, also lines a number
of neighbouring tentacles.

18. The three major constituents of air, and therefore of Earth's atmosphere, are
nitrogen, oxygen, and argon. Water vapor accounts for roughly 0.25% of the
atmosphere by mass. The concentration of water vapor (a greenhouse gas) varies
significantly from around 10 ppm by volume in the coldest portions of the
atmosphere to as much as 5% by volume in hot, humid air masses.

19. Rodent incisors grow and wear away continually through gnawing, which helps
maintain relatively constant length. The industry of the beaver is due in part to this
qualification. Many rodents such as voles and guinea pigs, but not mice, as well as
leporidae like rabbits, have continuously growing molars in addition to incisors.

20. Frogs have no tail, except as larvae, and most have long hind legs, elongated ankle
bones, webbed toes, no claws, large eyes, and a smooth or warty skin. They have
short vertebral columns, with no more than 10 free vertebrae and fused tailbones
(urostyle or coccyx). Like other amphibians, oxygen can pass through their highly
permeable skins.
