PROJECT 01 Learning From the Masters 45%


INTRODUCTION
From the beginning of the history of the built environment, an Architects Style Characteristics have
always been a part of Architectural History. Each architect has always tried to introduce new and
improved ideas of the conception of its style to stand apart through the test of time. This semester,
you will be exploring the specific characteristics of each architect and analyse his design styles. The
design principles that you will explore will be an extension of the knowledge you gain from your design
classes.

LEARNING OUTCOME
By the end of this assignment, students MUST be able to demonstrate the below;

Identify the various factors and characteristics of modern to contemporary design that

influences the development of the built environment.
Interpret architecture history research and illustrate it diagrammatically using manual and IT
CLO 2
skills in a creative and informative method.
Relate and compare design characteristics to architectural period style and illustrate the
CLO 3 characteristics of the architecture in terms of the theoretical concepts, spatial, building
typologies, architectural style and design language.
Compose well documented, illustrated and written analysis of architectural characteristics
CLO 4 of specific periods with design analysis that includes study of period's design elements,
design principles, concept and space planning.ng
TASK 1 (20%)

1. Individually, you are required to study 1 architect this semester.


2. You will produce a minimum of 2000 words report of research for your chosen architect.
3. You report must include :
a. The architects background
b. Career development
c. Design principle/concept
d. Significant contribution/works
4. You must look at any elements, form, technology, materials, space planning, etc that was
introduced by the architect.
5. Your report may include any relevant diagrams or images to assist your writing.
6. You must include proper reference and footnotes. Without references, your marks will be 0.
7. You are to choose ONE (1) architect listed below, Only 2 students can choose 1 architect;

TASK 2 (25%)
1. Individually, based on your task 1 Architect, you are required to;
a. Study one significant project by the chosen architect,
b. Create minimum two (2) A2 Infographic Poster manually drawn and composed
2. Your infographic poster should identify the characteristic of the building related to the
architect in terms of his architectural style, design characteristics, materials used and
special construction of the built form.
3. You are also to include any contribution or impact of the project toward the community of
bigger context.
4. Your drawings should be informative with diagram and text explaining about the
characteristic of the building be it in general or in detail. You infographic poster should also
highlight all the special features of the building.
5. You must only use Black, White and 2 tones of colour of your choice.
