induction motor is supplied from a symmetrical three phase supply.

11. A three phase squirrel cage induction motor takes a starting current which is 6 times
the full load rated current. The full load slip of the motor is 4% .Find the starting
torque as a percentage of full load torque if the motor is started (a) on line (b) star
delta starter.
12. The rotor of 4-pole, 50 Hz, slip ring Induction motor has a resistance of
0.25ohms/phase and runs at 1440 rpm on full load . Calculate the external
resistance per phase which must be added to reduce the speed to 1200 rpm, the
torque being the same as earlier.
13. A 6-pole, 50 Hz, 3-phase induction motor running on full load develops a useful
torque of 160 Nm and the rotor emf is observed to make 120 cycle/min. Calculate
the net mechanical power developed if the torque lost in friction and windings is 12
Nm. Find the copper loss in the rotor windings, input to the motor and efficiency.
The total stator losses are 800 watts.

14. A 400V, 4 Pole, 3 Phase, 50 Hz, star connected induction motor has a rotor
resistance and reactance / phase = 0.01 and 0.1 respectively. Determine i) starting
torque ii) slip at which maximum torque occurs iii) speed at which maximum torque
occurs iv) The magnitude of maximum torque v) Full load torque if full load slip is
4%. Assume ratio of stator to rotor turns as 4.
15. A 3 phase, 4 pole, 50 Hz, star connected induction motor running on full load
develops a useful torque of 300 N-M. The rotor emf is completing 120 cycles /
minute. If the torque lost in friction is 50 N-M, calculate i) slip ii) Net power out iii)
Rotor Cu loss per phase iv)Rotor efficiency v) Rotor resistance/phase if rotor current
= 60 Amps under running condition.
16. The power input to a 6 pole, 3 phase, 50 Hz induction motor is 41 kW. The total
stator loss is 1 kW and total frictional & winding loss is 2 kW. The speed is 960 rpm.
Find i) slip ii) BHP iii) Rotor Cu loss iv) efficiency.
17. A three phase, 500 volts, 50Hz, star connected induction motor has the stator
impedance of 0.06 + j 90.2) ohms per phase. The equivalent rotor impedance at
stand still is also equal to stator impedance. The motor draws a magnetizing current
of 36 amps. The iron loss is 1500 watts and the mechanical loss is 750 watts. Find
the power output, efficiency and the power factor if the slip is 2%. Use approximate
equivalent circuit.
18. A 2.8 kW, three phase, 440 volts, 50Hz, 4 pole, 1350 rpm delta connected squirrel
cage induction motor, has the following equivalent circuit parameters referred to
stator. Stator resistance = 2 ohms, rotor resistance referred to stator = 5 ohm, stator
reactance = 4 ohm, rotor resistance referred to stator = 5 ohm, shunt reactance = 80
ohms. Speed control is achieved by stator voltage control. Calculate (a) motor
terminal voltage, current and torque developed when the motor is run at 1200 rpm.
(b) motor speed, current and torque for the terminal voltage of 300 volts.

19. While delivering useful power output of 24 kw at full load a three phase 50 Hz, 8
pole, 415 volts induction motor draws a current of 57 amps, running at 720 rpm.
Under this condition the power factor of the motor is 0.707 lag. Stator resistance per
phase is 0.1 ohm and the mechanical losses are 1000 watts. Calculate (a) shaft torque
(b) gross torque (c) stator copper losses (d) stator iron losses (e) rotor copper losses
(f) efficiency.
20. A 15 HP, 6 pole, 600 volts, 3 phase, star connected slip ring induction motor has the
following constants referred to the stator side, R 1 =0.76 , R 2 = 0.9 , X 2 = 2 ,
and X 1 = 2.1 , G o = 1.4 x 10-3 mho and B o = 2.1x 10-2 mho. Draw the exact
equivalent circuit and mark the equivalent circuit parameters for 2 % slip. Determine
the stator and rotor currents, power factor, efficiency and torque developed at 2%
slip.
