ARDEX Innovation
ARDEX specialises in high quality construction materials for substrate
preparation, levelling floors, waterproofing and the fixing of surface
materials. The history of ARDEX began with self levelling and smoothing
cements over 50 years ago.
As the inventors of self levelling and smoothing compounds ARDEX products
including Ardit, Feather Finish and Ardurapid K 15 are firmly established as
benchmarks for flooring worldwide.

Floor Preparation Overview
The key to success when installing ARDEX products is to achieve a good bond
between the substrate and the ARDEX topping. Concrete floors must be solid,
mechanically prepared clean and free of all foreign contaminants. Unprepared
and contaminated slabs are the main cause of expensive and avoidable failure.
All substrates must be assessed and tested for moisture. Where moisture exceeds 5.5%
or 70% RH a moisture barrier must be first applied. Moisture vulnerable slabs such as below
grade, cracked or where vapour barriers are incomplete, missing or of unknown condition
a moisture membrane should be installed regardless of actual moisture content.
Each compound is thoroughly mixed with a mechanical drill and poured onto the prepared
and primed concrete. The compound is spread across the floor to thickness with a height
adjustable ARDEX Spreader then smoothed with an ARDEX smoothing trowel.
Where new or unusual circumstances are encountered specific project
recommendations should be sought from ARDEX Technical Services.

Flooring Tools
ARDEX compounds are the result of complex research and development.
Each compound contains special resins, polymers, sands, cements and micro additives.
ARDEX tools are designed to make the mixing of ARDEX compounds, accurate,
complete and to facilitate installation. Incorrect mixing and application may result
in segregation, poor bonding or product underperformance.

OnGoing Professional Development
Our industry, like any other, requires on-going
training to keep up with the changes in both
the materials (tiles, concrete, substrates etc),
standards and legislation.
For flooring contractors committed to providing a
high level of workmanship, ARDEX can help you stay
up to date, and increase both your professionalism
and productivity.
ARDEX workshops are designed to give you
hands on experience in addition to the theory.
These workshops cover:
• Developing practical application skills in priming,
ramping, smoothing and levelling
• Avoiding moisture failure by substrate moisture
testing and moisture barrier installation
• Product technology to develop expertise in
matching product to application, substrate,
floor covering and balancing risk
• Specification of floor preparation systems for
economical installation
• Discussion of AS 1884 floor coverings including
contractual obligations and responsibilities
