Abstract
This paper claims that literary genres can play a strategic role in the frame of the teaching of literature in
primary education. After explaining the reasons why we believe so, we focus on a specific genre, the
allegories of growth; we describe a few of its major generic components, while tracking them in texts
belonging to the genre. Finally, we propose activities that can be adopted while teaching similar texts,
referring to the goals that can be achieved through them.
