1. A motorist travelling 60 km/hr when he spotted the traffic light 180 meters ahead of him turns
red. The traffic light is timed to stay red in 15 seconds. If the motorist must pass the light
without stopping just as it turns green again, determine the a) required uniform deceleration of
the car b) speed of the car as it passes the stop light.

2. A particle moves along a straight line according to the relation between the position x and the
time t given by x = 2t3 24t + 6 meters. Determine a) the time required till a velocity v = 72 m/s
can be attained; b) the acceleration when v = 30 m/s; c) the distance travelled in the time
interval t = 1 to t = 4 sec; d) draw a-t, v-t, and x-t curves for t=1to t=4 sec.

Given: 2t3 24t + 6

3. A particle moves along a horizontal straight line with a constant acceleration. The velocity of the
particle changes from 10 ft/s to the right, to 25 ft/s to the left during a time interval of 7
seconds. Determine a) the constant acceleration; b) the position of the particle at t= 7; c) the
total distance travelled during the 7-second interval. Solve graphically using the v-t diagram.
