Dear Candidate:
Please read the information below carefully. It is important to understand the criteria and the
terms of the scholarship before completing the form below.
We particularly encourage qualified girls and refugees with special needs to apply.

a. Information about the Bourse DAFI


-Since 1992, the German government has been funding the Albert Einstein annual
academic Initiative for Refugees (DAFI), which aims to help deserving refugees from
all over the world to attend university/higher education.
-The DAFI programme contributes (i) to the development of qualifications, (ii) to
empowerment and (iii) to university/tertiary success as part of a broader UNHCR
strategy to promote self-reliance of refugees and the establishment of Durable
solutions.

The main objectives:


-To lead refugees to self-sufficiency by providing them with higher education which
will enable them to hold a paid job;
-To develop qualified human resources within displaced populations and to equip
refugees with capacity and a leadership role when they return to their country of
origin;
-Assisting the refugee community in the camps by training qualified professionals,
including teachers and community workers, until a durable solution is found; -
Facilitate integration and provide qualified human resources for the benefit of the host
country if repatriation is not desired or is not possible; and
-Serve as a model for other refugees, especially students, to encourage them to
continue their studies.

b.Application Requirements
The essential criteria:
Before you begin to complete your application, check to see if you meet the following criteria.
Your refugee status is confirmed by UNHCR.

-You are under the age of 35 no later than the closing date of the call for applications.
Indeed the age limit is 35 years at the beginning of university studies.

-You have a secondary cycle certificate/Diploma and will be admitted to University;


- You have already been admitted in 1st or 2nd year of Bachelor, or vocational
training courses including polytechnics and technical schools;
-Your academic performance is excellent: The main criterion of selection is past
school result of a pupil, often on the basis of a certificate of end of study with
excellent results.
-You do not benefit of other scholarship opportunities other than those offered by
UNHCR Education partner;.
-You are in need of financial assistance to continue your studies.
-You have a strong proven motivation to contribute to your community.
-You are proficient in the language of instruction in universities or colleges of the
country of asylum.
-You have a willingness to get results, get in touch easily with others, you are curious
to explore new ways to learn and work.

Eligibility criteria:
The DAFI Fellowship is open to refugees from the West Africa region and is addressed
specifically to:
-Students who have had to stop their studies to flee from abuses, and who are
provided with documents attesting to previous studies at the secondary or university
level in their country of origin or
-Students who have successfully completed their secondary school education in their
country of asylum;
-Qualified refugees who do not have the means to undertake university studies or
who are the subject of exclusion from national scholarships.

-Candidates who can clearly explain the reasons for choosing your
field of study.
-Candidates who can clearly explain how your choice is based on the job
opportunities provided in the country of asylum, and in particular the country
of origin upon repatriation.
The HCR stresses that only candidates are considered to have the intention of studying a
subject that is very relevant to the labour market, such as computer studies, engineering,

Support modality:
Before you begin to complete your application, make sure you understand the terms
and conditions of the award:
-The scholarship covers all tuition fees, as well as living expenses during

studies.

-The scholarship is awarded for a single academic year: The Fellowship is


provided on an annual basis for each school year.
-The exchange will be renewed only subject to the availability of funds by the
lessor through the UNHCR headquarters, and under the following conditions:
Enrolment in a school respecting the annual academic calendar and
examination sessions,
Regular attendance of courses,
Achieving good results at the end of the academic year for which the
fellowship is awarded,
The stock exchange is not maintained for the redoublers,
Access only at the license level.
c The application file
Make sure your application includes the documents listed below. The
application must include all the required documents. Incomplete applications
will not be taken into consideration.

The personal, family and social situation that would justify the award of
this fellowship;

One (1) Application form duly completed and signed by the applicant;
Two (2) identity photos stapled with the name on the back;
One (1) legalized photocopy of the refugee card or any other document
attesting to the status of the candidate;
(1) Legalized photocopy of the transcripts of the baccalaureate notes, as
well as the transcripts of the second, first and final grades;
One (1) photocopy legalized of previous diplomas, certificates or
attestations obtained;
Certificate of enrolment for the current academic year

Calendar:
Launch of the call for applications;
Discuss with UNHCR on the appropriate and preferred universities and channels for
the DAFI program;
Contact the university where you want to study and apply for admission

requirements;

Complete your application file by yourself


Submit your complete and signed dossier before the date communicated by the
UNHCR;
Wait to receive an invitation from the UNHCR for an interview;
After the interview, if the candidate is selected, he/she will be contacted to sign an
agreement with the UNHCR regarding the acceptance of the conditions of the
scholarship.
File Filing and Confidentiality:

Applications must be filed before the date by UNHCR at the UNHCR office level of
your respective country of asylum.
All information submitted to UNHCR will be treated with confidentiality. The
information presented in the application files will be
used for a fair selection process.
