Concept behind the Library Design
The library is divided into 5 platforms of specific,
fixed functions. The 5 platforms are vertically stacked
and staggered from each other. According to their
space and functional requierments the density and
opacity of each platform varies. These platforms in
clude the underground parking, staff floor, the meeting
rooms, the continuous book spiral and the topmost
floor with administrative offices called the head quar-
ters,
The terrace of each of these platforms are used os open
public spacesfor more flexible and dynamic functions
that involve user and library interractions. These in-
clude entrance areas and kid’s section, a variety of
reading and browsing areas and lounge like areas
called the ‘living room’, reader-librarian inerface area
called the ‘mixing chamber’ and a series of reading
galleries on the 10th level.
A continuous fabric of steel and glass wrap around
platforms and is separate from the primary structure.
This glass exterior provides a transparency between
the interior library functions and the exterior city life.
This was one of the key concepts for the library
design
