Learning goals: By the end of the class, students will be able to understand the difference
between this and these and to produce sentences with these words.

Language skills:
Reading: The students will read the sentences from the book and the content the trainee
will write on the board.
Writing: Students will write sentences using this/these and complete the exercises from
the workbook.
Speaking: Students will talk about which school objects are near them.
Listening: Listen to the trainees voice and classmates voice.

Language System:
Grammar: this/these to talk about near objects in singular and plural.
Function: We use this/these to talk about near school objects.
Lexis: Vocabulary related to classroom; table, backpack, pencils, pencil case, compass.
Plurals.
Phonology: Difference in pronunciation between this and these, /z/ sound, /s/ sound, /i/
sound and // sound.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE CLASS


Lead-in: (Time 5)
The trainee will show the students several objects (bag, pencils, pens, eraser, etc) and ask
them the names of the objects. The trainee will ask the students if they remember the
structure have got and if they do, she will use it to list the objects.

Learning for today: (Time 5)


The trainee will stick two pictures on the board, one containing one object and another
containing more than one, and she will ask the students what difference they notice
between the first and the second picture. After the difference is localized, the trainee will
explain that we use different words with plural and singular and she will write sentences on
the board. She will also use gestures and her own school objects, signaling and asking the
students to participate, grabbing their objects and telling sentences to the trainee. When
the explanation is done, the trainee will signal an exercise of Grammar in use from the
book, where students have to complete the theory.

Follow up activities: (Time 10)


The students will complete an exercise from the book where they have a set of images
and they have to write sentences according to the pictures. Once they finish, they will have
to read the answers. The trainee will help them with the pronunciation difference between
this and these.
The trainee will help the students if they need her.

Exercise number 4 (from the book): Look at the example. Write sentences.

Feedback:
The students will participate reading their answers to the exercises and the trainee will be
willing to help them and monitoring.

If there is time left:


The trainee will divide the class in two groups. The students will play charades using the
sentences the trainee will provide them, but they will not be able to represent the
demonstrative pronouns. For example: if they have the sentence This is my cat., they will
have to represent the words is, my and cat, so their mates will have to guess that the
first word is this. They will be able to draw on the board.
