G12-2 Radiologic Technology

Another immersion, another course. As we move on from Rehabilitation Sciences,

the College of Medical Radiation Technology takes over this weeks immersion. At first,
the professor gave an introduction on what comes first on our minds when we hear
RadTech or most commonly people have heard of it. Radiologic Technology isnt always
about exposure to radiation or its injurious effects, though, as a future health care
professional, I respected and understand the common understanding of what society
thinks of medical courses are of which I am gratefully aware of. Some of the introductory
phases, the professor mentioned several additional information of what a radiologic
technologist do, interns are exposed to community-based and hospital-based internship
both private and public. It gave me interest that we use radiation to see human bodies
internally, which infers, the eye of medicine. This means that out of all medical courses,
this course area contributes uniquely to health-related jobs, this is to see our bodies inside
and of which gives some numerous possibilities, for example, if the patient has bone
fracture, we are able to find what kind of bone fracture; if the patient has showing
symptoms or health-related problems, we are able to find what hinders their health
incapacity and therefore may able to save lives (if consulted prematurely). All of which
can be observed through various modalities either diagnostic or therapeutic. If the patient
has osteoporosis, bone densitometry or DEXA is used in order to determine the bone
density of which we can affirm the certain diagnosis. If the patient has uncertain disease,
under nuclear medicine, the positron emission tomography or PET scan is used. For me,
there are a lot of advantages when it comes to radiologic technology, it really is, the eye
of medicine. This adds up to my course choices, Pharmacy being the top and might
considering RadTech in one of my top 3 choices. This is because I want to learn and
operate how these magnificent machines work and able to see and determine a patients
health incapacity by preforming certain modalities. Furthermore, I want to help patients
as well as doctors to resolve certain diseases or any internal factors related health
disability, this will help them in diagnosing the patients as well as monitoring their health
statuses. During the day one lecture, I am already excited for the laboratory part on day
two because of hands-on activities on laboratory equipment and machines.
