1.1 Structural Components

The minimum thickness of structural sections shall as given below;
Trusses/bracings - 5 mm
Purlins, side girts/runners - 5 mm
Columns, beams - 6 mm (Flange) 5mm (web)
Gussets in trusses & girders
Up to & inclusive of 12 m span - 6 mm
Above 12 m span - 8 mm
Stiffeners - 6 mm
Base-plates - 10 mm
Chequered plates - 5 mm
Grating - 25 mm
Grout for structural columns -25 mm

Below mentioned design process of the drainage

A. Type - Main drain trapezoidal types & connecting

/secondary drain Rectangular type

B. Construction
- Rectangular Ditches - RCC
C. Velocity
- Maximum - < 2.4 m/s
- Minimum - >= 0.6 m/s

The minimum channel slope shall be fixed in such a way that it should reach the minimum
velocity of 0.9 m/s at full conditions. The minimum width and depth of rectangular
channels shall be 300 mm. In open channel a minimum freeboard of 150mm shall be
provided to prevent the water surface overflowing from the drain during design flow
conditions.
D. Manning constant
- Rip Rap/stone pitching Ditch - 0.025
- RCC drain - 0.015

E Rainfall Intensity

The design rainfall intensity 46.95 mm / hr as stated in the process design Basis, shall
be used for design of storm water drain.
F Rainwater Run-off

The following Rational Method formula shall be used for the determination of the
Quantity of rainwater run-off:
Q Rain = C x i x A

Where:

Q Rain denotes quantity of run-off in m3/hr

C denotes the impermeability coefficient
I denote rainfall intensity in m/hr
A denotes Area being drained in m2
All rainwater discharges are accumulative up to the maximum time of concentration,
G Run off co-efficient (C)
a. Concrete - 1.0
Bituminous - 0.9

b. Compacted area such as tank farm/ Offsite areas - 0.7

c. Unusable open area/Green Belt area - 0.4

1.2 Sanitary Sewer System (SS)

Sanitary wastewater originating from the individual buildings shall be collected & treated
in conventional septic tank & soak pit system.
Toilet block up to septic tank ; UPVC pipe
Min velocity of Flow ; 0.75 m/sec2

The consideration shall be given in estimating the rate of flow to the following
factors:

The number of persons to be served,

Average daily consumption of water per head,
Any exceptional peak discharge due to simultaneous use of fittings in Buildings,
The sewer shall be sized on basis of design flow rate.

1.3 Manholes
Manholes shall be located at intervals based on sewer pipe size to facilitate
maintenance, inspection, and cleaning. Manholes shall be of RCC. Top of manhole
shall be placed either flush with paving or 50mm above grade in unpaved Areas.

Manholes to be positioned at the following locations:

a. At dead ends of mains.
b. Where a main sewer header changes direction.
c. Where there is an abrupt change in elevation
d. Where there is an interconnection of main sewer headers and laterals, except as
may be noted in the specific requirements for each type of system.
e. Where there is a spec. break/change in pipe material.
