FOR SAFE OPERATION

The following safety symbols are used on all products in the CMZ700 series,
including this converter, as well as in this manual:

WARNING:
Indicates that the operator should take special care to avoid danger that
may result in injury or the loss of life, or critical conditions in navigation.

CAUTION:
Indicates that the operator should be aware of actions which could cause
damage to the instrument or lead to difficulties in navigation.

WARNING

RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK

Turn off the power supply before starting
the wiring.

CAUTION

No megger tests expect for the on-board power

supply terminals. A megger test may damage
the instrument.
1-1

1. GENERAL

1.1 Introduction
MKC106A converts the serial signal of CMZ700 series gyrocompass into the synchro signal
(100V AC synchro) to drive the repeater compass (KR002/KR005/KR005A) made by
Yokogawa / Hokushin.
Therefore, the replacement of the repeater compasses is unnecessary, and it is possible to
replace the existing Gyrocompass with CMZ700B/S/D without modification to receive
circuits of connected equipment such as RADAR and INMARSAT etc.
(Note : When the output signal to RADAR/INMARSAT is the stepper signal, it is necessary
to use the stepper output of CMZ700)
This manual includes the functionality and operation of the D/S Repeater Converter only.
For details on the gyrocompass as a system, refer to the following instruction manual.

Terminal board(TB1) : The AC synchro signal for Repeater compasses and the power supply
for the lamps are output.
Output capacity: Max. 8 circuits
Terminal board
(TB2-RDA,RDB) :Connect serial heading signal from the gyrocompass with this
terminal board( RDA,RDB).
Terminal board(TB3) : A terminal board for an internal connection
Heading
alignment button : The value of connected repeater compasses increases by every one
degree when SW2() is pushed.
If SW3() is pushed, the value decreases by every one degree.
NoteThe above operation is available only when Command code 23 or 24 of
CMZ700 and maintaining the heading of master compass is executed.
(Please refer to the instruction manual of CMZ700 series.)
Temperature alarm
reset button (SW2): Push this button more than 3 seconds if a temperature alarm occurs.
The AC synchro signal stops when temperature of the heat sink is
more than 80 . It is reset when this button is pushed for more than
3 seconds if it is less than a temperature 30 of the heat sink .

LED Lamp DS1(Yellow):LED Lamp (Yellow)for the communication indication.

It goes on and off when it synchronizes in the normal signal.
LED Lamp DS2(RED) :It is turned on when a temperature alarm occurs and an output signal
is stopped

Dip switch(SW1) : An input transmission period can be set up. Early value is established
in 50ms.

3. OPERATION

3.1 In case of first time to use:

When the power is supplied on to the converter for the first time, the heading value in the
converter is not corresponding to the repeater compass reading.
Therefore, it is necessary to align heading according to the following flow.

Execute command code 23 or 24 of CMZ700, and

maintain the heading of the master compass.

Repeater compasses are maintained by the value.

Read the value of Repeater compass reading.

NotePlease adjust repeater compass when there is a gap

of the reading value in each repeater compass.

Adjust Repeater compass reading to the value of LED

display by using SW2() or SW3() on the control
board in D/S Repeater Converter.

The value of connected repeater compasses increases by every

one degree when SW2() is pushed.
If SW3( ) is pushed, the value decreases by every one

Release the command code 23 or 24 of CMZ700.

3.2 From second time:

Only turn on D/S Repeater Converter after Gyrocompass is started.
The above operation(3.1.1 through ) is not necessary because an internal battery
memorizes the heading value when the power was turned off.

Note

Please confirm the reading value of the master compass of Gyrocompass and the repeater
compasses once a day.

lower 4 bits. Each group is then converted into ASCII data, i.e., SUM1 and SUM2, for
use as checksum.
