Fault Code 1384

Intake Manifold 1 Pressure Sensor Circuit - Voltage Below Normal or Shorted to Low Source

CODES REASON EFFECT

Fault Code: 1384 Intake Manifold 1 Pressure Sensor Possible engine power derate to no air setting
PID(P), SID(S): Circuit - Voltage Below Normal or for Industrial applications.
SPN: 102 Shorted to Low Source. Low signal For Marine applications, no derate occurs.
FMI: 4 voltage detected at the intake
Lamp: Maintenance manifold 1 pressure circuit.
SRT:

Circuit Description:
The intake manifold 1 pressure sensor monitors intake manifold pressure and passes information to the ECMs through
the engine harness. If the engine has only one intake manifold 1 pressure sensor, and the intake manifold 1 pressure
sensor circuit voltage becomes too high, it will cause a derate condition. If the engine has more than one intake manifold
1 pressure sensor and only one sensor faults (generating a fault code), no negative effect will occur. The ECM will ignore
the damaged sensor and use the other sensor for calculating fueling. If both sensors malfunction, then a default intake
manifold pressure value will be used and derate can occur.
For marine applications, no derate condition occurs. There is no engine protection for an intake manifold 1 pressure
sensor or circuit fault.

Component Location:
The intake manifold 1 pressure sensor is located in the left bank front air intake manifold.

Shop Talk:
There are multiple ECMs for the engine models included in this manual. Each ECM has an individual source address that
displays when INSITE electronic service tool is connected. When troubleshooting a fault code, use the source address
displayed in INSITE electronic service tool to determine which ECM and circuit is affected.
The intake manifold 1 pressure sensor shares supply and return wires in the engine harness with other sensors. Opens
and shorts in the engine harness can cause multiple fault codes to be active. Before troubleshooting Fault Code 1384,
check for multiple faults.
Possible causes of this fault code include:
Signal circuit open or shorted to ground in the engine harness or sensor
Supply wire open or shorted to ground.
