2 PrimeCollect under Windows

2.1 Starting PrimeCollect

Various options are available to you for starting PrimeCollect which entail
particular software requirements.

2.1.1 Online start on the management station

Requirements
On the management station either Windows Server 2003/2008 and
ServerView Operations Manager >= 4.60 or Linux (Red Hat/SuSE) and
ServerView Operations Manager >= 4.70 must be installed.
On the PRIMERGY servers Windows Server 2003/2008 and the ServerView
Agent >= 4.60 must be installed.
You will find the ServerView agent for your operating system on the
ServerView Suite DVD 1 or on the Web server
http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/prim_supportcd/start.html
in the Software Products ServerView Agents directory.
I When the ServerView agent is installed, PrimeCollect is
automatically installed, too.
To collect RAID information, ServerView RAID Version 2.3 or higher or an
LSI Global Array Manager (the latter only supports LSI controllers) must be
installed on the PRIMERGY servers.

Online start on the management station

With this method you start PrimeCollect from ServerView Operations Manager:
Select the required PRIMGERY server in the server list.
Select the PrimeCollect entry in the Maintenance menu.

2.1.2 Online start on a PRIMERGY server

I If a Windows full memory dump is found, this can be stored in a separate

zip file (only necessary on direction of the support).

Requirements
For a start from the Windows Start menu Windows Server 2003/2008 and
the ServerView Agent >= 4.60 must be installed on the PRIMERGY server.
cognitas. Gesellschft fr Technik-Dokumentation mbH 2009

You will find the ServerView agent for your operating system on the
ServerView Suite DVD 1 or on the Web server in the ServerView Agents
directory.
I When the ServerView agent is installed, PrimeCollect is
automatically installed, too.
For a start from the ServerView Suite DVD 1 or via the Web server, Windows
Server 2003/2008 must be installed on the PRIMERGY server. The DVD
must be version 7.812 or higher. With this method the agent does not need
to be installed.
To collect RAID information, ServerView RAID >= 2.3 or an LSI Global Array
Manager (the latter only supports LSI controllers) must be installed on the
PRIMERGY servers.

Online start on a PRIMERGY server

Start PrimeCollect using the PrimeCollect.exe program either
from the Windows Start menu
Programs Fujitsu ServerView Suite Agents PrimeCollect
or
from the ServerView Suite DVD 1 or the Web server in
the ServerView - Maintenance & Update directory.

2.1.3 Offline start on a PRIMERGY server

Requirements
The ServerView Suite DVD 1 must be version 7.812 or higher. The operating
system on the PRIMERGY servers is irrelevant here as Windows PE is
loaded from the DVD.
I With this method PrimeCollect obtains no information about the
operating system which is installed, e.g. operating system version or
installed drivers. You must provide this information separately for
Support.
To collect RAID information, ServerView RAID >= 2.3 or an LSI Global Array
Manager (the latter only supports LSI controllers) must be installed on the
PRIMERGY servers.

2.2 Executing PrimeCollect

Working with PrimeCollect consists of two interlinked steps, namely collecting
hardware and software data and combining the result files in one or two zip files.
I In the case of a local online start, the option is available of storing a
founded Windows full memory dump in a separate second zip file (only
necessary on direction of the support).

2.2.1 Collecting and storing data

To collect data, click on the Collect Data button after you have started
PrimeCollect.
I If PrimeCollect was started offline, please use an external data
medium (e.g. USB stick) to save the data.
I In the case of a local online start, the option is available of storing a
founded Windows full memory dump in a separate second zip file
(only necessary on direction of the support).
In the case of an offline start there is no possibility to draw-off a full
memory dump because the customer operating system is not
accessed.
I When the result files are saved using one of the two buttons, up to
four error messages are issued one after the other. You can ignore
these. This defect is the result of using WinPE 1.x and will be
eradicated in following ServerStart versions when WinPE 2.0 is used.
After this action has been completed, please click on Save or Save Dump in
order to save the result files.
