Bring Your Own Technology/Device (BYOT/D) Policy and Procedures

The Philosophy of Super Middle School is to ensure each student is provided


optimal learning environment. In order to meet the demands of the 21st Century
Educational environment, SMS will utilize Bring Your Own Technology/Device
Policy. The purpose of BYOT/D is to enhance learning through collaboration,
creativity, and quick access to the information. Educational experts have identified
technology as a tool that can have positive impact on learning in educational setting
if utilized properly. As technology has made its way into everyday life, Super Middle
School is offering its students participation in Wonder County Bring your Own
Technology/Device program.

Super Middle School offers free access to the School Network. Students are
encouraged to bring their own technology/device. Technology/device has to have
features for the intended educational setting. If the student does not bring its own
technology/device, the school will provide the student with one. Student will not be
reprimanded if the student does not participate in the BYOT/D program.

Definition of Technology/Device

The words technology and device, refers to portable, wi-fi compatible


gadgets such as tablets, laptops, Ipads and smart phones. The technology/devices
will have the features that allow students to connect to school wi-fi, able to
download applications needed and participate in the scheduled activity.

Guidelines

SMS has issued Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, Internet Code of
Conduct and Internet approval letter. SMS student and SMS parents/guardians
received brief on each of the policies and procedures stated above. It is mandatory
that each SMS student and Parent follows the rules and policies and conduct
themselves with integrity.

SMS Student will bring their technology/device when its part of the scheduled
lesson plan/learning. The Teacher will guide SMS students on when will the
technology/device be utilize, what time and how long. Students are to adhere to the
teachers guidance and classroom management rules.

Technology/Devices are not to be utilized outside of scheduled class lesson


plan, such as tweeter or Facebook. No illegal postings of photos and any other
material. The technology/device will not be utilized to gain advantage on any
assessments such as quizzes, tests or labs. NO CHEATING WILL BE ACCEPTABLE.

Charging of the technology/devices will be available during the time usage has been
approved.
Agreement

SMS Student and SMS parents are in agreement that the Student will exercise
cyber security at all times. SMS IT department monitors students Internet activities
and bypassing SMS network is not allowed. Students technology/device will be
confiscated.

Students are not allowed to post any personal information, photos or videos
that could potentially endanger the student or any other individual. Student
technology/device will be confiscated and Student will face disciplinary board.

Students are not to utilize technology/device in order to cause harm to the


SMS network. If such activities is suspected or caught, SMS administrators will
confiscate the technology/device.

Broken/Lost/Stolen Technology/Device

Super Middle School is not responsible for any damage of the


technology/device. Students are not to borrow their technology/device to other
students. Student is expected to follow the rules and guidelines on when to use the
technology/device to minimize the possibility of being lost. Each SMS Student is
assigned a locker with the keypad, SMS Students will secure their technology/device
when not in usage in their lockers. This will ensure physical security of the
technology/device. SMS is not responsible for any stolen technology/device.

If Student breaks the SMS Code of Conduct, the Student will face disciplinary actions.

1st offense: Technology/Device will be confiscated


Parents/guardian will receive the phone call
Technology/Device will be returned to the parent/guardian

2nd offense: Technology/Device will be confiscated


Parents/guardians will receive the phone call
Technology/Device will be returned to the parent/guardian
Afterschool ISS

3rd Offense: Technology/Device will be confiscated


Parents/guardians will receive the phone call
Technology/Device will be returned to the parent/guardian
Technology/Device will be returned to the parent/guardian
2 days of after school ISS
4th Offense: Technology/Device will be confiscated
Parents/guardians will receive the phone call
Technology/Device will be returned to the parent/guardian
3 days of after school ISS
Student is no longer allowed to bring technology/device to School

I apprehend, accept and will follow Super Middle School Bring Your Own
Technology/Device policy and guidelines. Any violation will result in the loss of my
network and/or device privileges as well as other disciplinary action. I understand that
during the school year, SMS BYOT/D policy and procedures plan is subject to change on
need to be basis.
