1 Introduction
Iranian Gas Engineering & Development Company (I.G.E.D.C) has intended to perform gas
transmission pipeline and gas compressor stations for transferring of 110 MMSCMD of natural
gas to be fed from South Pars phases 22 ~ 24 from Assalouyeh to Bazargan.
Design of a new 56" gas transmission pipeline from Assalouyeh to Bazargan has been
described under this EPC Contract.
2 SCOPE
This specification covers the minimum requirements for the physical properties and technical
characteristics of external protective coating materials , 3 Ply Co-Extruded Plastic Tape and
0 Hand-applied petrolatum tape, for use on buried piping. Also it covers application, handling,
1
installation and testing of external protective coating system.
The materials offered shall be in compliance with the requirements of the standards and
specifications mentioned herein. The vendors may offer their equivalent standard products;
however any deviation from the specified standards and specifications should be clearly
indicated and separately listed in the quotation.
In case of conflict between this specification and other documents, the vendor shall contact the
purchaser clearly stating the points, which have caused the conflict and ask for clarification.
3 DEFINITIONS
Client: Iranian Gas Engineering & Development Company (IGEDC).
MC: Ghods Niroo Consulting Engineers.
CONSULTANT: Haraz Rah Consulting Engineers.
CONTRACTOR: Gharargah Khatam-AL-Anbia.Niroo Goostar Institute.
It shall be fast drying, butyl rubber base and special formulated to be used with
3Ply tape system. The primer properties shall meet the requirements of Table 2 in
IGS-M-TP-014-2(2), sec (C).
It should consist of a polyethylene carrier film, coated on both sides with a plastic
butyl Rubber based compound in one co extrusion process. The properties shall
meet the requirements of Table 1 in IGS-M-TP-014-2(2),sec (C).
The tape shall provide high insulation properties, corrosion preventing properties,
low moisture absorption and permeability, non cracking and non hardening
properties. It shall be resistant to salts, mineral acids, and alkaline substances. The
tape shall be simply unrolled in situ on to the primed steel surface.
The finished material shall meet the requirements of Table 5.2 and subclasses 5.4.1 to
5.4.6 inclusive of IPS-M-TP-317.
The primer shall have satisfactory brushing properties with a minimum tendency
to produce bubbles during application.
No heat shall be required to produce an effective bond between the surfaces to be
protected and the subsequently applied tape.
7 Tests
7-1 The Owner reserves the right to witness any or all of the inspection and
testing that the Vendor is required to carry out and shall have all reasonable
access to the work where the materials are being manufactured.
7-2 Testing of materials shall comply with latest edition and revisions of the
standards listed in this specification. Such inspection and testing shall not
relieve the Vendors responsibility to furnish material in accordance with this
specification.
8-1 The material shall be protected and packed for export in accordance with
good practice. The tape shall be delivered in roll form and a removable
Interleaf shall be incorporated against Adhesive compound to prevent sticking
of layers. Each roll shall be individually put in plastic bag .In general,
minimum standard for packaging shall be as defined in the applicable section
of British Standard BS 1133 packaging Code.
8-2 The primer shall be delivered in maximum 20 liters new steel drums.
8-3 Special attention shall be given to the protection of material possibly stored
for extended period under extremes of climate experienced on site.
8-4 All material containers shall be plainly marked with the Vendors name,
type of material and batch or lot number, production date and shelf life.
a. The clean, dry, prepared surface shall be primed with one thin continuous
coat of the primer and allowed to dry completely. For petrolatum coating
application, No heat shall be used to produce an effective bond between the
surface to be protected and the subsequently applied tape.
b. Coating and wrapping shall not be started until that section of line has been
tested and accepted. All joints & linings shall be given a uniform coat of
primer prior to application of the tapes.
a. For 3ply co-extruded plastic coating, the tape shall be applied with 50%
overlap on primed surface. It amalgamates at the overlap at ambient
temperature to form a sleeve type coating.
b. All defects in the coating shall be repaired immediately after their detection.
c. The Contractor shall be responsible for the complete cost, including cost of
materials, of making, good all defects caused by incorrect storage, handling,
application and testing of the protective coating or caused by incorrect
construction of piping.
d. In the event of numerous defects in the coating, OWNER shall have the right
to order the whole coating to be stripped, the pipe cleaned and another coating
provided, applied and tested in accordance with the specification at the
Contractors expense.
e. Tears, abrasions or other coating defects shall be repaired to the satisfaction of
the owner.
