Anatomy

Anatomy
the branch of science that teaches bodily structure of humans, animals, and
other living organisms
Usually through dissection and the separation of organisms
Levels of organization:
Organ Systems
Respiratory System
Responsible for taking in
oxygen and exhaling carbon
dioxide
Expand and compress
Lungs filter out any air thats
not oxygen
Circulatory System
Transports blood around the body
Blood carries:
Oxygen, red blood cells, white blood cells, glucose
Heart:
Pumps blood with oxygen to the rest of the body
Takes blood without oxygen back through the
lungs
Blood travels heartlungsheartbody
Nervous System
The control center of the whole body
Includes the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, and nerves
Allow people to experience life
Two branches
Central Nervous System
Brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System
The nerves
Helps move, feel, think, sense, and do things unconsciously
Reflexes are unconscious so they are automatic
Digestive System
Helps you eat food
Starts with the mouth
Chew up food moves to the stomach by the
esophagus
Stomach makes food even smaller
Moves to small intestines, where food
gets absorbed
Moves to large intestines
Large intestines- absorb excess water
Exits the body :D
Skeletal System
Supports the body
adult human skeletal system consists of 206
bones
a network of tendons, ligaments and
cartilage that connects them
Animals with internal skeletons made of bone,
called vertebrates and animals with external
skeletons are called invertebrates
Muscular System
Allows the body to move
640 muscles in the human body
Connects to bone with tendons
Works by contracting and relaxing
Muscles usually come in pairs
The heart is a muscle!
