Soil movement is possible if the rainfall is in above normal condition, let alone the area directly
adjacent to the cliffs, river valleys, or slopes. Old soil movements can also be active again.

According to PVMBG, there are five causes of occurrence. First, the slopes are in steep and
unbound locations. Second, switch land to plantation. Third, heavy rains in high intensity and
in a long time before the ground movement occurs.

The fourth cause is the presence of contact fields between waterproof rocks such as clay with
a more axial layer such as soil weathering or sandstone which can be a field of slip or a weak
field in the rock. The last cause is poor water settlement arrangement.

Responding to the movement of the land, PVMBG had dispatched the team to the disaster site
to conduct checks to determine the cause of the movement of the land. The team will also
provide technical recommendations for the handling of land movement disasters and provide
socialization.
