3.0 THEORY

3.1 Definition of End Circuits

End circuit is defined as the circuit that link from distribution fuse box and terminates
at load or outlet socket or electrical appliances within the corresponding wiring
installation. In other words, end circuit involves final connection at consumer wiring
installation up to distribution fuse box.

3.1.1 Types of End Circuit

There is two types of end circuit, which are:

(i) Lighting Circuit
(ii) Power Circuit

3.2 Power Circuit

The wiring installation of power circuit can be divided into two types:
(i) Radial Circuit
(ii) Ring Circuit

3.1.1 Ring Circuit

Most modern socket circuits are ring circuits or ring mains as they are
sometimes referred to. A cable leaves the consumer unit and travels to each
socket on the main and when it reaches the last socket, it then returns to the
consumer unit, thus creating a ring. The advantage of this system is that power
can reach the sockets in the circuit from both directions, which reduces the
power load on the cables.

A ring circuit can serve an area up to 100 square meters, 2.5mm 2 cable is used
to wire the circuit and the circuit has a 30A fuse or 32A MCB on the consumer
unit. It is usual for a house to have one ring circuit upstairs and one ring circuit
downstairs. Ring circuits can have extra sockets added to them by adding a
'spur' onto a ring circuit. A spur is a branch off the ring circuit, usually from an
existing circuit, although a junction box could also be used. Theoretically as
many spurs as sockets could be added, but the maximum load of the circuit
(30/32amp) still exists.

4.0 EXPERIMENT PROCEDURES

4.1 Procedures

(i) Estimate the actual measurement on the wiring board according to

schematic diagram shown in Figure 4.1.
(ii) Estimate cables length appropriately
(iii) Stack the base of PVC casing or PVC condiut on the wiring bay
according to the circuit layout.
(iv) Lay cables along PVC casing or PVC condiut according to the wiring
diagram.
(v) Fitting and install the socket outlet at the point of wiring.
(vi) Test the circuit using multimeter or others testing instrument
(vii) Connect the circuit to power supply and observe the circuit operation.

4.2 Circuit Function

(i) SO1, SO2, SO3 and SO4 is socket outlet 13A which connected using
ring circuit method.
