1.2 Testing
The entrance tests are made up of a verbal reasoning test paper and a non-verbal
reasoning test paper. Each paper consists of 80 questions and takes 50 minutes.
The tests are prepared and the results standardised, exclusively for the Tiffin Schools,
by GL Assessment (formerly the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER))
The tests differ from any tests which are publicly available to parents. Past test papers
are similarly not available; however practice papers are produced by GL Assessment
and are widely available at stationers. The tests are not based on any primary school
curriculum, but do contain familiarisation elements which are not marked.
The results of the tests are not comparable to those for other schools entrance tests.
Kingston LA will exchange information with other local authorities to identify the single
highest offer available for each eligible applicant.
Offers are made until 150 places have been filled. In the event of a tied score to fill 150
places, applicants on the tied score will be ranked in order of their distance from
school, and the closest applicant offered until the roll reaches 150. The distance will be
the shortest straight line distance from home to the nearest pedestrian entrance of
Tiffin School.
The distance criteria will be administered by Kingston Schools Admissions using their
distance definitions and their computerised Geographical Information System.
The results of the Tiffin tests will be sent to parents prior to the closing date of the
Common Application Form which is 31 October 2013.
The 150 places for Tiffin School will be offered on 1 March 2014 (i.e. letters will be
posted on 1 March 2014). Letters offering a school place will come from your home
local authority. In all cases parents have two weeks to accept an offer.

1.4 Age
Applications for entry to the School in September 2014 will normally be from parents of
boys born between 1 September 2002 and 31 August 2003 inclusive. Applications for
boys outside that age group will be considered according to the individual
circumstances of the case; these parents should write to the Admissions Department
at Tiffin School before registering their son for tests. Boys are only eligible to be tested
once for entrance into Year 7.
You will be sent detailed information regarding the arrangements for the tests a week
prior to the test date. The results of the tests will be sent to you in time for you to
decide if you wish to apply for a place at Tiffin School. If you do, you must complete
and return your Common Application Form to your home local authority and include
Tiffin School as one of your preferences.
1.8 Waiting list for entry into Year 7 between September 2014 and July 2015
From 1 March 2014, the waiting list will automatically consist of boys, in ranked score
order, who have not had a higher preference school offered to them. Boys who have
been offered a higher preference school will not be included unless parents request it
(in which case they will be added to the waiting list in rank score order). The request
must be put in writing to the Admissions Department at Tiffin School.
The waiting list will be maintained from 1 March 2014 until the end of the Schools
published summer term for the academic year September 2014 to July 2015. During
this period, if the planned admission number falls below 150, offer(s) will be made to
the boy(s) at the top of the waiting list. After this date, there will no longer be a list.
Those who have not achieved the qualifying score (i.e. the lowest score offered a
place in that cohort) and therefore have not been offered a place by that date will not
be considered for a place in Years 8 to 11 at any future time.
1.9 Appeals
Parents of boys who are not offered a place may appeal. Details of how to appeal and
a timetable for appeals will be on the School website from 28 February each year.

2. Casual Admission into Years 7 to 11 after the start of term in September 2014
2.1 From September 2014 onwards, any application for a school place for Year 7 to 11
should be made directly to the School. In addition, a Common Application Form must
be completed and returned to your home LA. This form may be downloaded from their
website.
Only when there is a vacancy in the relevant year group will all applicants be invited to
attend for testing. For Year 7 the tests will consist of a verbal and nonverbal reasoning
test.
For Years 8 to 11 they will be English and Maths tests.
Tiffin School will notify the applicants parents and Kingston LA of the outcome of the
application.
3.2 All boys in the current Tiffin Year 11 who meet the admission criteria will have priority
for Sixth Form places. A minimum of 40 places will be filled by external applicants to
the Sixth Form; final numbers will vary depending on combination of courses and
availability of spaces.

refusing a student admission and, where they appeal separately, the appeals will be
