Based on a Synthesis of both Assessments:
Student will be able to correctly identify fact and opinions in the text using word clues when appropriate by the end of the
6 day reading cycle.
In each lesson, we use team talk questions where discussion and reading takes place about facts, opinions, main ideas, and
problem solving. I will be able to monitor through his written responses and oral answers. I also give them a chance after
the test is given to work as a team to add or change answers to achieve a better score and understand of the
comprehension test.
My idea for the type of comprehension instruction that would be needed to ensure this students learning goal is met is to
make sure to use random reporting to ensure that the student understands the skill. Allowing adequate time for the
students to discuss my questions and to add on or change other peers answer to receive the top score on our challenge
scores. I also would use real world application to the daily reading to extend the team talk questions and intrigue real
interest in our text.
Students are required to read 20 minutes every night and respond with 2-3 sentences on what they read that evening. I
could contact the parent and ask them to have their child talk to them about what they read for the 20 minutes and read
what they wrote in their homework journals to make sure that the two have common qualities.
My ideas on how to collaborate with other in my school to ensure that this students learning goal is met is by having bi-
weekly meeting with their homeroom teachers to let them know what progress their student is making. The reading
program that we implement in our school does not really go beyond my classroom. Other teachers make sure
comprehension is attained through other subjects. I am unsure of how to make my goal move further through other
members of the school.

This student will be able to create an accurate summary from part of the text by the end of this 6 day reading cycle.
As I monitor the classroom, I can have him orally give me a summary or retell of what he has just read individually or with a
partner. I can prompt him with questions that pertain to a quality summary. Such as, is that an important piece of
information? Is that in your own words? Have him find an understanding about what he just told me orally was a great
summary and if he would have written that he would have had a 100 on our challenge score sheets.
My idea for the type of comprehension instruction that would be needed to ensure this students learning goal is met is to
have him focus in on summaries that his peers make during reading. I can use random reporting to have students restate
what their peer just summarized. By repetition, he can have a better understanding of what a summary is and use his new
found knowledge to use in his own summary writing. His graphic organizer is very messy. This tells me that he may not
have the greatest understanding of what should be put on the organizer. Having an individualized lesson on completion of
graphic organizers may aid in his success for summarizing. w

This student in particular has a difficult time with reading. I feel like his parents may not know the importance of reading
20 minutes a night. I feel like having the parents involved with his reading may prompt both the student and the parent to
become more involved with reading daily. Reading together would be amazing, but always doesnt happen. I would ask the
parent to have the student retell what they read that evening to them and that would assist with his summarizing skills.
I feel like this relates to student #1 as well. It is hard to have one goal move onto their homeroom teacher. We use a 90
minute reading program 4 days a week. Therefore, not much more reading and comprehension is permitted in regards to
the time left in the day. Again, I know teachers strive for comprehension in other subjects. I can ask them to really work on
this student summarizing what they just learned in other subjects, such as, science and social studies.

I feel like with the reading program that is being implemented at my school brings roadblocks in regards to communication with
other teachers. We have a 90 minute block set up 4 days a week for this program. So most reading skills and goals stay with my
students in my classroom during that trimester. Maybe I am looking at the work collaborate in a different light? Please let me know
