Shape 5 Clan Roster Component Tutorials

2. Installing the component
a. In the backend of Joomla navigate to Extensions/Install and Uninstall
b. Browse for the component’s zip file and and click Upload File and Install:

c. Once the component is installed you may start using it by navigating to


Components/S5 Clan Roster.
3. Setting up categories
a. You can setup multiple levels of categories or for a simple roster just setup one
category. You can make this component as simple or as complex as you wish. If
you setup only one category your site visitors will be brought directly to that
category when viewing the component, if there are multiple categories they will
be able to choose which category they wish to enter.

b. To create a new category click the New button in the upper right hand corner
once on the Categories page of the component.

c. Give your category:


i. Name
ii. Category parent level. You can create sub levels by clicking on a parent
level from the list, this will automatically create the new level as a sub.

iii. Enter your full category description. This is the description that will show
at the top of the category page. You can use the editor to enter in any
custom formatting or images.

iv. Below the category description fill the number of characters you want to
show in the choose category screen. This is a shortened description that
will only show plain text.
v. Next enter your category settings. These settings allow you hide or show
certain information about your users.

vi. In the same section enter in the number of rows you would like shown for
that category and how many users should be shown in each row. If there
are more users than the settings allow for page navigation will
automatically show at the bottom of the category screen.

d. If you wish you can setup your own custom fields for each category. You can
choose between text or textarea and give your custom field your own unique
label. Every category has its own unique set of twenty custom fields.

e. Click Save in the upper right when you are finished to create the category.
f. If you wish to edit a category simply click on its name in the category list.
g. If you wish to copy a category simply check the category to copy and click the
upper right corner of the categories page. Copying can save a lot of time when
you want multiple categories then only vary slightly.

4. Settings
a. Because most of the component settings are handled on the category level there
are few component specific settings. You may change the follow settings under
the Settings tab:

5. Users
a. On the Users tab you will see a list of all your site’s current users. This list pulls
directly from the Joomla users table to keep all users in sync.

b. To edit a user click on the user’s name. To create a new user click the New
button in the upper right corner.
i. Enter the user’s basic information on the left side.
ii. Then on the right side assign the user to one or multiple categories (hold
ctrl while clicking to assign multiple)

iii. Below the category list you will see a list of any custom fields that apply
to this user based on what categories you have inputted them into. In the
picture below the user has been assigned to the categories “World of
WarCraft” and “Call of Duty 6” and the custom fields for those categories
are shown.

iv. Below the custom category fields you may upload a photo for the user or
delete the current one.

v. Users can also update their own information and photo from the frontend
of the site. When logged in they will see an edit button next to their
name. Users may only edit their own information.
