MOCK TEST PAPER 2

FULL MARKS: 60 DURATION: 2 Hours
SYLLABUS: Network Theorems, Laplace Transform and Applications, Resonance, Graph
Theory and Two- Port Networks
(All questions are compulsory)

1. I1(s) and I2(s) are the Laplace transform of i1(t) and i2(t) respectively. Find the
equations for the loop currents I1(s) and I2(s) for the circuit shown in figure, after the
switch is brought from position 1 to position 2 at t = 0. Also determine the value of
i1(t) at t = 0+. [2+2]

2. Determine the Z parameters and Y parameters and of the network shown below. [6]
3. (a) State Millmans theorem. Use the theorem to find the voltage across and current through
the load resistor RL in the circuit shown below. [2+4]

(b) State and explain Kirchoffs laws. In the circuit shown below, determine R and the
equivalent resistance Req between the terminals a & b when v1 = 8V applying the two basic
Kirchoffs laws. [4+4]

(c) State and explain Superposition theorem. Compute the power dissipated in the 9
resistor in the circuit given below by applying the superposition theorem. [3+3]
4. (a) Find the current I in the Fig. (a) given below by changing the two voltage sources into
their equivalent current sources and then using the nodal analysis. [4]

(b) State and explain the reciprocity theorem. In the network shown in Fig. (b), determine
whether reciprocity holds or not. Also calculate the transfer resistance. [3+3]

5. (a) Write short notes on the following :

(i) Resonance. (ii) Bandwidth. (iii) Q factor. (iv) Duality [2 x 4 = 8]

(b) A series resonance network consisting of a resistor of 30, a capacitor of 2F and an

inductor of 20mH is connected across a sinusoidal supply voltage which has a constant output
of 9 volts at all frequencies. Calculate:

(i) The resonant frequency. (ii) The voltage across the inductor and capacitor at resonance.
(iii) The Quality factor. (iv) The bandwidth of the circuit. [4]

(c) For the network shown below, determine the number of all possible trees. For a tree
consisting of (1, 2, 3) (i) draw tie set matrix (ii) draw cut-set matrix. [8]
