Figure 1.1 Resource Flow of SAMA PO KATA farmer houeholds.

In the 3-year goal of SAMA PO KATA, one vision is to pay all liabilities. To
enumerate, the members basically came up with three strategies; planting
organic vegetables, increasing their crop yield, and vermicomposting by the
use of African Night Crawlers.

The members came up with the idea of planting organic vegetables for extra
income, and allocating the 5% of their profit for paying up what they owed to
samahan. For the first strategy to be successful, they plan to be stricter in
collecting fees from each member. Constant reminders by the officers in
settling each members fees either by sending formal letters or by visiting them
in their respective homes. They also thought of increasing their land for
planting crops. The target date is by December 2020 they have paid all their
debt. The indicators that their target were being met are noticeable increase in
their associations budget or fund and that one third (1/3) of the due money is
already paid during the span of its first year.

To increase their farm yield, the farmers interviewed thought of increasing the
number of members in their association, especially encouraging the younger
generation to join and be active in organic farming. They are also thinking
about using vermicompost and vermitea consistently or any other technology
appropriate and useful to them. The target date to implement these activities is
by January 2018. They will need the help of UPLB in monitoring to make sure
they are on the right track in achieving this.

The last strategy that the farmers thought was using African Night crawler to
increase their added income. African night crawlers are very desirable for
vermicomposting due to their voracious appetites and ability to quickly
reproduce. They also had the idea of starting Apiculture or beekeeping.
Apiculture is the maintenance of honey bee colonies, commonly in man-made
hives, by humans. Their estimated budget are Php 5,000-10,000 for buying
ANC and stingless bees; also for buying tools and equipments for setting up
vermihouses and the housing bees. The excess vermicompost and the
collected honey are then to be sold in their local market mainly every
Saturdays where there are more buyers. The target date is by March 2018.

These strategies being identified will help them in targeting their goal of paying
their liabilities at the span of 3 year period or by the year 2020. There is a huge
role of each member of the organization in achieving their goals. It is also
important to prioritize what activity should come first to have a clear action.
