Aadhaar Seeding in Beneficiary Bank

Account
Background
Aadhaar based payment is a unique payment system implemented by National Payment
Corporation of India (NPCI), which uses Aadhaar number as a central key for electronic
channeling Government benefits and subsidies in Aadhaar enabled bank accounts of the
intended beneficiaries. It is a payment system based on Aadhaar numbers issued by UIDAI
and IIN (Institution Identification Number) issued by NPCI. For direct benefit transfer to
beneficiaries, Aadhaar based payment is a reliable mode for State Government to transfer
benefits and subsidies to intended beneficiaries.

As per reports received from SLBC Maharashtra on 04.01.2017, 1,29,50,917 Jan Dhan
Accounts (nearly 77%) have been seeded with Aadhaar against total number of Jan Dhan
Accounts (1,68,06,630) opened across Maharashtra.

with Bank Account
Beneficiary can check his / her Aadhaar linking status on https://resident.uidai.gov.in/check-
aadhaar-linking-status or by dialing *99*99# on mobile phone registered with bank. If not
linked, it can be linked to beneficiarys existing account in any of the following ways:

1. Through Internet Banking portal

If beneficiary is an internet banking user, then he / she can log into banking portal
and link his / her Aadhaar number with respective bank account. In case of multiple
bank accounts, the bank portal allows to select the Account number.

2. Through ATM channel

Beneficiary can access any of respective banks ATMs and seed Aadhaar with his / her
Bank account.

3. Through Branch channel

Beneficiary can visit any nearby bank branch with a copy of his/her Aadhaar. At the
branch, a Letter of Request or consent form will be obtained from beneficiary along
with the copy of Aadhaar. After necessary verification, the linking will be done by the
branch. An SMS may be sent to beneficiary's registered mobile number regarding the
status of seeding.

4. Through SMS (available with few banks)

If beneficiarys mobile number is registered with the Bank, then he / she can send
Aadhaar number via SMS in the format defined by the bank.

The Aadhaar number will be verified by Bank with UIDAI as per name of Account
holder. In case it fails verification, SMS may be sent to beneficiary to contact any
nearby branch along with copy of Aadhaar.

The step-wise process of seeding Bank Account with Aadhaar is explained below:

Steps Description
Step 1 If Beneficiary has existing bank account, he / she may request to seed his Aadhaar
to bank by aforesaid ways.
If beneficiary does not have bank account, he / she may open Jan Dhan Bank
Account in the nearest bank and request to seed Aadhaar.
While seeding, the Bank takes a consent from beneficiary to seed his / her
Aadhaar into respective bank account.
Step 2 Bank seeds the Aadhaar against the respective bank account in its Core Banking
Solution (CBS) application
Step 3 Upon completion of step 2, Bank uploads the .txt file carrying Aadhaars of
beneficiaries on weekly or monthly basis on NPCI mapper through Secured
