A persons love of music is as subjective as a love for

food (McElwain,2016). Food is one of the essential needs of

human lives. Most people nowadays prefer to eat at restaurants

due to their busy lifestyle. Think about the last time youve

been in a restaurant. Do you remember what kind of background

sounds filled the atmosphere? Music has been playing a big role

in restaurants these days. Music has the ability to change the

mood of the atmosphere that contributes to a different

experience. In that way, restaurants have the ability to ensure

customer satisfaction.

It is apparent that people often consume foods and

beverages in the presence of background sound. Nevertheless,

little attention has been paid to the influence of background

sound on body senses and food intake. There have been some

studies that music can alter food perception. Holt-Hansen was

the first researcher to feature the existence of a crossmodal

correlation between taste and pitch of a sound (Holt-Hansen

1968).
