Brief background of your country in written in your own words: (post 1900 creation
of country + some major events that made the country what it is today)
Iran started to modernize itself to become what it is today in 1921. Starting from Reza
Khan became a Shah of Persia (Iran) after successfully revolted against the old
dynasty. Then, he renamed Persia into Iran in 1953. During and after WWII, British and
America began to involve in political, religious, and trading of Iran. For example, After
WWII, British wanted to take control of oil industry in Iran but the Shah, Reza Khan,
refused which later forced out of power and has been replaced by his own son,
Muhammad Reza, by British and Soviet. Then, The Shah began the White Revolution to
westernize Iran with the support of United States which makes many Iranians
unsatisfied and began to revolt. This revolution ended with the death of Shah in Egypt.
Then, Iraq begins the war with Iran because of the disagreement between the territory.
In 1995, United States places oil and trade sanctions on Iran because they think that
Iran supports terrorism. Plus, President George W.Bush referred Iran as a part of an
axis of evil. These things met with anger in Iran which caused the conflict between
United States and Iran until now.

Brief summary of the history of the social issue (based on MDG selected) in
your country: (causes of the social issue in your country)
Due to Iran-Iraq war, it leads to the numerous emergences of social issues. The
country has a big jump in population after the war where the government placed in the
control to sustain the population with free contraceptives on many clinics. However, as
the time passes, the population tended to decline; therefore, government has to
motivate for the increasing of birthrates by providing more money and assistances. As
more women are educated, they decide not to have more babies for them to be born in
a society with hyper inflation. Next, the country was estimated to have about 1.2 million
drug users and Iran is now reportedly approaching 3 millions. Opium has now
becomes one of the most popular narcotic in Iran being used up to 67 percent of
consumption. Additionally, from Irans neighbour country, Afghanistan has many
gigantic plantations of opium poppy, exporting many tons a year.

Brief summary of how the social issue (based on the MDG selected) has affected your
country (post 1945): (effects of the social issue in your country current situation)
Reduce child mortality The latest statistics from the MDG report reveals that Iran is on
track in reaching the target of reducing child mortality by 2/3s by 2015. The targeted
rate for child mortality can be reached, while further efforts might be required to reach
the recommended infant mortality rate of 17 in every 1000 live births. Furthermore the
country is steadily reaching the goal of providing immunisation for measles for all one
year old children by 2015.

Brief summary of what your countrys government has done to deal with the social issue
(based on the MDG selected): (policies in place and progress in dealing with the problem)
Iran set a goal to reduce the mortality rate of children under five between 1990-2015
by 75%. Iran use three main strategy to reduce mortality rate of children: improving
case management skills of healthcare staff, improving overall health systems, and
improving family and community health practices.
Iran used the summary birth history data from four data sources and used age of
mother and period of pregnant methods to estimate the risk in child mortality
rates. They also used the complete birth history method to estimate child mortality
rate directly from DHS data. Finally, they used Gaussian process regression to
calculate risk in child mortality rates.
Iran reduce the mortality rate of children by united the mortality reduction programmes
into arco health policies. Create a plans to reduce child and infant mortality rates in
provincial and rural places. Expanding health programmes to all the remotest rural
parts of the country and improve progress of standard protocols for prenatal and
postnatal care.
