Calculating Volume Calculating Weight

Volume = Length x Width x Height Weight = Volume x Density

Example: Example:
Length - 5.0 m Please note: The average density of the excavated earth
from the Floodway is approximately 1,600 kg (3,530 lb) per
cubic meter (m3)

Using the volume example to the left,

30.0 cubic meters (m3) of earth would weigh:
Height - 2.0 m
Width - 3.0 m
WEIGHT = 30.0 m3 x 1,600 kg/m3 = 48,000 kg
(48 tonnes or 106,000 lb)
VOLUME = 5.0 m x 3.0 m x 2.0 m = 30.0 cubic meters (m3)
(or ~39 cubic yards)
