Building services

Advanced building services in the sixth semester focused on the escalators ,lifts ,travalators
,mechanized parking and Acoustics Where the students not only studied the basic working and
principles of lifts ,escalators etc. but were also introduced to the various NBC's
recommendations for the allocation of these services in various building types according to the
need and requirement. The students studied for the first time in detailed the plan elevation and
section of lift ,escalators, travalators and also their various types and were introduced to certain
terminologies related to these such as lift carrying capacity, rated load , rated speed etc. other
then this a major portion of this module focused on the building acoustics , properties of audible
sound , acoustical defects , sound insulation and environmental noise controls.

To have a much clear knowledge on the subject the students were shown the working of these
physically at various locations within the college campus and also to understand these services
from a broader perspective the students were made to do case studies to understand the
application of these in various building types specially the application of sound insulation in
buildings like offices, auditoriums, lecture room and OATs.

Architectural Design

Design in the sixth semester focused on the understanding and application of students
of the specific complex services ,new technologies , acoustics , economy, building
byelaws ,structures and incorporating design aspects of site planning and landscape .

The various design problems focused on understanding the various steps involved the
design of commercial spaces like hotels, office, mall and acoustical study in reference to
buildings like auditorium, multiplex and conference halls with reference to literature
reviews of such cases, case studies of similar buildings, application of various codes
and analysis of overall building performance .

Building materials construction technology

The building construction classes focused on advanced systems in buildings and

learning construction details of various building parts at advanced level were the
students are to demonstrate principles and appropriate application and performance of
construction materials, products , components and assemblies including their
environmental impact reuse with advanced materials. The students were introduced to
on site construction terminology, building byelaws , requirements of submission and
completion/compounding of projects.

The student made complete set of working drawings and construction details for a
storied residence with necessary changes made as per the local byelaws and by the end
of the semester students were to list of drawings for better understanding of the subject
like site plan ,Foundation Layout plan and details All Floor plans, Door window schedule
, electrical and plumbing layouts, kitchen ,toilet, staircase details and details of a
complete wall section .
Structural design and Systems

Structures in 6th semester focused on understanding of principles of structural behavior in

withstanding gravity and lateral forces and the evolution, range and appropriate application of
contemporary structural systems for this purpose students studied soil mechanics and foundation
engineering which included soil investigation concepts, need , method of soil testing and concept of
ultimate and safe bearing capacity of soil and also the different foundation systems their types and
feasibility criteria ,Foundation for treacherous soil like black soil , under reamed pile foundation
and their application , rcc and masonry retaining walls , design and detailing of continuous rcc
beams. In this students were also give a fare knowledge of earthquake resistance design according
to the Indian standard codes.

For better understanding of the subject the students did calculation and solved problems for active
and passive earth pressure, moment design and detailing of continuous rcc slab.

Vastu in architecture

This is one of the elective subject provided the university which was basically to educate the
students on vastu shastra that our own built environment is in harmony with the energy of the
inmates living in it .To expose students to the various theoretical and practical aspects of vastu
shashtra the students were familiarize with the ancient mode of designing building in amalgamation
with the latest technologies available .

The students were introduced to the history of vastu , vedas other ancient books , growth of vastu
,vastu today, scientific definition of vastu , Humans and Building cosmic energy and flow, purush
mandala, five elements theory, Planets and directions.

for the first time students were introduced to understand in detail the planning as per vaastu
planning for kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom, children room office and also the land and
location as per vastu includes angles in plot and building, veedhishoola, shermukhi and gaumukhi
plot selection of land ,examination of land and types of land as per vedic books.

Vernacular Architecture

This is the second elective subject offered by the college which looks at specific vernacular
architectural communities, identification and interpretation of specific local, regional and national
vernacular traditions to develop broader sense of understanding of the relationship between
architecture, environment and culture by learning the key aspects and systems of vernacular
architecture.

The students studied the Indian context of vernacular architecture , factors influencing vernacular
architecture ,building materials and construction techniques in India , vernacular architecture in
21st century, materials and techniques of different regions in India focusing on the bhunga house
of Rajasthan, rajput havelis etc.
Construction and site management

The objective of this was to equip students with the basics of construction management by
introducing them with networking techniques construction planning practices which included
project planning , scheduling, monitoring and control, us construction equipments in industry, use
of computer aided CPM and PERT for planning, computerized network scheduling and bar charts
, preparation of schedule for jobs, materials, equipment, labour and budgets.

For better and clear understanding of the subjects students were divide into groups of two and they
had to select a live construction site in delhi and document its progress and cost for four to five
months

Specification and Estimation

It familiarized students with the theory and practice of estimation and quantity surveying and to
develop understanding of specification writing with ability to make technically precise drawings
and write outline specification for a proposed design understand fundamentals of building cost ,
life- cycle cost and construction estimating .For this purpose students were taught importance and
uses of specification , methods writing detailed specification for various common materials like
brick types of estimation and various methods of estimation and rate analysis.

for a clear understand of these students were to solve various problems rate estimation cost
estimation of building components and formulating BOQs
