NIRAMAYA HEALTH INSURANCE

Niramaya is a social insurance scheme which was initiated to encourage health promotion of persons
with special needs. An extraordinary and fortunate aspect of this health insurance scheme is that all
pre-existing health conditions are covered. The National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with
Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities, a statutory body under the
Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, implements Niramaya health insurance
scheme. Enrollment is done through NGOs and SETHU is one of the partnering NGO in Goa for
this scheme.

The process of registration is simple and the basic documents required are as follows:

1. Identity Size Photograph of the beneficiary (person with special needs)


2. Certificate issued by Government authority mentioning either of the 4 conditions
3. Parents/Guardians bank account details
4. BPL card/Income Certificate if applicable
5. Payment receipt towards the insurance
Surgeries, non-invasive procedures, alternate medicines, treatment for reducing the disabilities and
even travel expenses are covered. Beneficiaries have to pay in advance & claim for the bills paid
through receipts within 30 days of the treatment. The expenditure is reimbursed and the money is
