Lesson Plan

Georgia Performance and ISTE Standards: SKCS3. Students will use tools
and instruments for observing, measuring, and manipulating objects in
scientific activities.
6Creative Communicator
Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes
using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.

Day 1:
The teacher will present the following problem to the students:
A wheelchair-bound person has a blown light-bulb that needs to be
replaced. The teacher will introduce the students to and demonstrate the use
of the website, http://www.abcya.com/make_a_robot.htm, on the
Promethean board as well as the functions of all of the features. The
students will create a robot to solve the problem. The students will work in
pairs to sketch their robots and list the important features it must have to
get the job done.
Day 2:
The student-pairs will create their robots online and write a description of
the robots functions and appearance.
Day 3:
After all pairs have finished, everyone will meet up on the rug to share their
designs on the Promethean board. Pairs will read their descriptions and
explain why they created their robots the way that they did. Pairs will be
assessed by all other pairs based on the rubric criteria.
Day 4-5:
After all pairs have presented, printed versions of their robots will be
displayed. Pairs must then compare their robot and another pairs robot. The
comparison can be done using various mediums (i.e. a Youtube video, a
drawing, etc.)
