ISM Current Event Assignment

Quiz Grade!

Purpose: This assignment will help you to more successfully contribute knowledge to your
project choice. Being an informed citizen and discussing current events will give you a better
perspective on different points of view. This assignment will also give you opportunities to read
material in multiple genres and in multiple contexts.
Article Guidelines:

Article must be a current event (News, Magazine, Newspaper, Online News Reporting Article)
Article must have been published within one year
Article must be relevant - it must pertain to the career field or your topic/product for your
semester ISM project
Article must be from an appropriate source - NOT Wikipedia
Article must have an appropriate subject matter - articles with excessive violence or
inappropriate subject matter will not be accepted and will receive a grade of zero (0).

Directions: You will read a current event article and turn it in with a typed response. You will
have the option to submit the link to your article in the text field when you submit this
assignment to ItsLearning. The news source may be digital or in print. All assignments are due
on the date given. If you have an excused absence on a due date, your assignment is due the
next class day.
Specific Directions (Response Report): Choose an article that pertains to the career field or
your topic/product for your semester ISM project. You need to read the article. It is HIGHLY
suggested that you mark the text or take notes as you read. You will need to complete a
written, typed response report. The written, typed response report should include the following
(exact order with subtitles):
1.) Title and Date of Article Write the title of the article and the date it was published,
centered at the top of the page.

2.) Summary Summarize the main idea of the article. This should be a minimum of 8
sentences.

3.) Connection to Essential Question State the connection to your project. It should
also include evidence from the text that supports this. This should be a minimum of 8
sentences.

4.) Personal Response - Write your response to what you read. Did it evoke an emotion?
What were your thoughts after reading the article? Explain and give examples. This
should be a minimum of 8 sentences.

5.) MLA Citation This must be in the correct MLA format. Use EasyBib to create your
citation.

Due Date/Submission: This assignment is due on 11/3/17. You will submit your Current Event
Response Report to ItsLearning. Provide a link to your article in the text box section of the
submission. If your article is not digital, you will need to provide a Xerox/printed copy to Mrs.
Click.
