INSTRUCTION FOR USE

OF HP AIRTESTER
FOR ALL BREATHING AIR
FROM HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS

1. Preparation of HP Airtester
1.1. Connect Airtester pressure reducer to the cylinder valve
!
1.2. Connect Airtester hose to the Airtester pressure reducer
1.3. Open cylinder valve and check the content of the cylinder (200 bar)
1.4. Flush the Airtester system (about 5 minutes)
1.5. Place the temperature measurement device on the cylinder body

2. Preparation of MSA HP detector tubes and start testing

2.1. Get the detector tubes out of package (CO2-HP, CO-HP,
Synth. Oil-HP and H2O-HP)
2.2. Set timer (5 minutes)

2.3. Break off the detector tube tips at air exit side (see direction of arrow)
2.4. Put each detector tube into the appropriate tube holder, inserting broken-off
end tightly into holder side away from Airtester manifold (see direction of arrow)
2.5. Break off the detector tube tips at air entry side and immediately insert open
tube tightly into the other end of the tube holder, close to the Airtester manifold
(tube scale must be readable)
2.6. Immediately thereafter start timer

3. After 5 minutes (first time period)

3.1. Remove the CO2-HP and CO-HP detector tubes carefully

3.2. Set and start timer again (5 minutes)

3.3. Read the discoloration of the removed CO2-HP and CO-HP detector tubes
(CO2 min. 300 - max. 500 ppm)
(CO max. 15 ppm)
3.4. Fill in the values onto the HP Airtest form

3.5. If the values are beyond the valid regulations take necessary actions

3.6. When required: prepare the detector tube for nitrous gases in the same way as
described above, for use later on (Nitr.-HP)

4. After another 5 minutes (total of 10 minute test time)

4.1. When required: put the Nitr.-HP detector tube in the same way as described
above in one of the unused tube holders (flow of 0,3 l/min)
4.2. Set and start timer again (10 minutes)

4.3. Remove the H2O-HP detector tube carefully

4.4. Read the discoloration of the removed H2O-HP detector tube
(at a pressure of > 200 bar the value must be < 35 mg/m3
and at a pressure of > 40 < 200 bar the value must be < 50 mg/m3)
4.5. Read the temperature from the temperature measuring device and use the
temperature correction factor (see temperature correction factor table)
4.6. Fill in the value onto the HP Airtest form

4.7. If the value is beyond the valid regulations take necessary actions

5. After another 10 minutes (total of 20 minute test time)

5.1. Remove the Synth.Oil-HP and Nitr.-HP detector tubes carefully

5.2. Hold the Synth.Oil-HP detector tube vertical, with stretched arms
5.3. Bend the tube at the indicated point (between two arrows)
and break the ampoule
5.4. Let the fluid flow into the (second section) bottom of the detector tube ( 10mm)
and wait (1 minute)

5.5. Read the discoloration of the removed Synth.Oil-HP detector tube

(glassy/light amber = OK)
(yellowish brown = not OK)
5.6. Read the discoloration of the removed Nitr.-HP detector tube
(check and compare with local regulations)

5.7. Fill in the discoloration of the Synth.Oil-HP and value of Nitr.-HP detector tubes
onto the HP Airtest form

5.8. If the discoloration and values are beyond the valid regulations take necessary
actions (for oil this could mean that the test must be repeated,
but then with the Mineral Oil-HP detector tube)

6. Extra Test (make sure that the necessary corrective actions have been taken)
6.1. Determine which tests must be repeated (CO2-HP, CO-HP H2O-HP, Nitr.-HP
and/or Mineral Oil-HP)
6.2. Get the related detector tube(s) out of the package

6.3. If only CO2-HP and/or CO-HP is involved, set the timer (5 minutes)
6.4. If only H2O-HP and/or Mineral Oil-HP, and/or Nitr.-HP is involved,
set the timer (10 minutes)
6.5. If a combination of CO2-HP and/or CO-HP and H2O-HP and/or
Mineral Oil-HP and/or Nitr.-HP are involved, set the timer (5 minutes)

Be alert, on the fact that a combination of CO2-HP and CO-HP and Nitr.-HP at one time, is
impossible, due to the 0,3 l/min flow of these three types of tubes and the availability of just
two tube holders with that specific flow specification

6.6. Break off the detector tube tip(s) at air exit side (see direction of arrow)
6.7. Put (each) detector tube into the appropriate tube holder, inserting broken-off
end tightly into holder side away from Airtester manifold (see direction of arrow)
6.8. Break off the detector tube tip(s) at air entry side and immediately insert open
tube tightly into the other end of the tube holder, close to the Airtester manifold
(tube scale must be readable)
6.9. Immediately thereafter start timer

7. After 5 minutes (only with CO2-HP and/or CO-HP) (2nd first time period)
7.1. Remove the CO2-HP and/or CO-HP detector tube(s) carefully
7.2. Set and start timer again, when H2O-HP and/or Mineral Oil-HP and/or Nitr.-HP
are used in the extra test (5 minutes)

7.3. Read the discoloration of the removed CO2-HP and CO-HP detector tubes
(CO2 min. 300 - max. 500 ppm)
(CO max. 15 ppm)
7.4. Fill in the values onto the HP Airtest form

7.5. If the values are beyond the valid regulations take necessary actions

8. After another 5 minutes (total of 10 minutes extra test time)

8.1. Remove the H2O-HP and/or Mineral Oil-HP and/or Nitr.-HP detector tube(s)
carefully
8.2. Read the discoloration of the removed H2O-HP detector tube
(at a pressure of > 200 bar the value must be < 35 mg/m3
and at a pressure of > 40 < 200 bar the value must be < 50 mg/m3)
8.3. Read the temperature from the temperature measuring device and use the
temperature correction factor (see temperature correction factor table)
8.4. Fill in the value onto the HP Airtest form

8.5. Read the discoloration of the removed Mineral Oil-HP detector tube
(discoloration not beyond mark a)
8.6. Read the discoloration of the removed Nitr.-HP detector tube
(check and compare with local regulations)

8.7. Fill in the values of the Synth.Oil-HP and Nitr.-HP detector tubes onto the
HP Airtest form

8.8. If the discoloration is beyond the valid regulations take necessary actions
