ABSTRACT

The detailed laboratory experience in this report was conducted in order to understand the heat
exchange in concentric tubes and determine the heat transfer exchange process coefficients thru a
HT4 heat transfer unit (double tube exchanger). For this four tests were conducted in the heat
exchanger; one with parallel flow at 60 C, 1500cc cold fluid and 2500cc hot fluid flow; and three
experiences with countercurrent flow at temperatures of 50, 60, 70 and 80 C, with a 2500cc hot
fluid fixed flow rate and 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000cc cold fluid flow rates.

It was observed that in both flows; countercurrent and in parallel, was a power loss between the
heat emitted and absorbed, which indicates that is not a complete heat transfer. Furthermore the
heat coefficients obtained experimentally differ significantly to those obtained theoretically, this
because there are important properties of water such as density, specific heat, viscosity, Prandlt,
which were omitted in the experimental calculated coefficients . Finally, the compared
performance of both heat exchangers, ie parallel flow with countercurrent, showed greater
efficiency in the counterflow exchanger.
