You may update the HST via three methods:

1. Using a direct Ethernet connection between a PC and the HST
2. Over a LAN/network between a PC and the HST using DHCP
3. Over a LAN/network between a PC and the HST using Static IP

To update the HST with a direct connection between a PC and the HST:

1. You need the following components:

a. Windows PC/laptop with an Ethernet port
b. If no Ethernet port, but you have USB, purchase a USB to Ethernet
converter (available from www.solutions4sure.com or commercially)
c. Ethernet crossover cable (standard with HST) to go between your PC and
the HST
d. Charger/adapter for HST (required during upgrade).
e. HST Updater software CD for Windows

2. Install and run the Updater program on your PC

a. Install the Updater program on your PC (run SETUP from the CD-ROM)
b. Restart your PC as directed if running Windows 2K or XP
c. If you have previously installed the Acterna HST3000 Updater program
and are only adding a new version:
i. Locate the Upgrade files on your source disk
ii. Copy the Upgrade folder with files into:
c:\program files\acterna\acterna HST3000 Updater\upgrades

d. After installation, press START-PROGRAMS-ACTERNA-ACTERNA

HST3000 UPDATERto launch the updater program
e. Select the appropriate s/w version from the drop-down box in the Updater.

3. Use an Ethernet crossover cable to connect the HST to your PC

4. Connect the AC Charger/adapter to the HST
5. Start the HST in Update mode and setup the HSTs static IP address and server IP
address
a. Press and hold the SYSTEM KEY on the HST and then press the HST
power on button
b. Select the language (press 1 for English)
c. In the Firmware Update Mode Screen
i. Change Item 1 to Addressing Mode (Static)
ii. Change Item 2 to an IP address that is compatible with your PCs
IP address
iii. Change Item 5s Server IP address to match your PCs IP address

6. Start the HST update by pressing 6 on the HST

7. The Update will now proceed automatically, and the HST will tell you when it is
complete, and to restart your unit. The upgrade will take approximately 5 minutes.

The Network Card IP address for your PC may be not be the same value as shown in the
above example. Make sure to use your PCs Network Card IP Address. The HST Updater
program on the PC will tell you what Ethernet adapters it found, and their IP addresses.

NOTE: If the Acterna Updater program on the PC does not detect an Ethernet adapter
on your PC, or your adapter is not configured with an IP address, it will be necessary
to go into Network Properties in Windows, and configure the adapter for a static/fixed
IP address (If youre not sure how to do this, ask someone for assistance).

network/hub/router
c. Charger/adapter for HST (required during upgrade).

2. Install and run the Updater program on your PC connected to the Network
a. Install the Updater program on your PC (run SETUP from the CD-ROM)
b. Restart your PC as directed if running Windows 2K or XP
c. If you have previously installed the Acterna HST3000 Updater program
and are only adding a new version:
i. Locate the Upgrade files on your source disk
ii. Copy the Upgrade folder with files into:
c:\program files\acterna\acterna HST3000 Updater\upgrades

d. After installation, press START-PROGRAMS-ACTERNA-ACTERNA

b. Select the language (press 1 for English)
c. In the Firmware Update Mode Screen

6. Start the HST update by pressing 6 on the HST

You should ask your IT support for a static IP address, Netmask, and Gateway to assign
to the HST.

The netmask and gateway addresses on the HST may be left at 0.0.0.0 if the
HST and PC are on the same network subnet.

NOTE: if the Acterna Updater program on the PC does not detect an Ethernet adapter
on your PC, or your adapter is not configured with an IP address, it will be necessary
to go into Network Properties in Windows, and configure the adapter for DHCP or a
static/fixed IP address (If youre not sure how to do this, ask someone for assistance).

To add new software options to the HST:

If you have purchased new options with this software, it will be necessary to unlock the
new options in software.

1. Order the desired options form Acterna

2. Provide Acterna with the HSTs unique ID number by looking in the HST system
menu:
i. SYSTEM Navigation button
ii. Options/revs/copyright menu item
iii. The second line of numbers: HST ID xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

3. Provide Acterna with the HSTs serial number by looking at the barcode under the
battery
4. Once you have received your Challenge Code from Acterna, you can use the
system menus to enable your new options.

i. To unlock the new features, go to:

a. SYSTEM navigation button
b. Options/Revs/Copyright menu
c. Press the ADD softkey.
d. Enter the code into the dialog box via the keypad.
e. The HST will tell you if the code was accepted
f. restart the unit

ii. If the HST rejects the code:

a. Try again to enter the same cod
b. If it fails again, contact Acterna customer service to obtain
a new code
