A. General
(1) This publication covers Duct Temperature Sensor, P/N 627962-2 Series 1, 2 and 3,
manufactured by Honeywell ASCa Inc., 3333 Unity Drive, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
(2) Since the subject equipment is cast in filled epoxy resin, repair is limited to general
cleaning and removal of foreign matter. No illustrated parts list is presented.
B. Identification
(1) The unit consists of two sensing elements in a probe-type housing cast in filled epoxy
resin. One sensing element consists of a single glass-encased thermistor bead; the other
consists of two glass-encased thermistor beads wired in series. The cast housing features
a triangular, three-hole mounting flange for boss-mounting into an aircraft duct. The unit is
mounted with only the thermistor beads exposed to duct air.
(2) Three screw terminals on one end of the housing provide electrical connections to the
aircraft temperature control system.

D. Operation
The unit detects air temperature in the aircraft air supply duct and provides outputs representing
the duct temperature to an associated temperature control unit.
E. Leading Particulars
A. General
(1) Refer to Special Tools, Fixtures and Equipment (paragraph 9) for test equipment required.
(2) The following procedures provide a means of checking the serviceability of the sensor.
Failure of any of the tests outlined is cause for rejection of the Duct Temperature Sensor;
there are no repair procedures for failures of this type.
(3) Two characteristics of sensors require observance of special precautions during testing: the
sensitivity of the sensor to ambient temperature changes and the sensor dissipation factor.
(5) Due to the voltage sensitivity of cabin temperature sensor, the wheatstone bridge voltage
should be applied only long enough to obtain a reading. The wheatstone bridge current
should not exceed 80 µA.

B. Operational Test
(1) Set the duct temperature sensor in the temperature bath and connect it to the test unit as
shown in Figure 2.
(2) Set the temperature bath fluid to 35 ±3ºF (1.7 ±1.7ºC). Let sensor temperature stabilize for
at least five minutes.
(3) Using the wheatstone bridge, measure the resistance between terminals A and B, and
terminals B and C. Simultaneously measure the temperature of the fluid in the
temperature bath. Plot the resistance measured versus temperature on the graph shown
in Figure 3 and Figure 4; the intersection point shall lie within the shaded area.
(4) Set the temperature bath fluid to 75 ±5ºF (23.9 ±2.8ºC). Let sensor temperature stabilize
for at least five minutes.
(5) Using the wheatstone bridge, measure the resistance between terminals A and B, and
terminals B and C. Simultaneously measure the temperature of the fluid in the
temperature bath. Plot the resistance measured versus temperature on the graph shown
in Figure 5 and Figure 6; the intersection point shall lie within the shaded area.
(6) Set the temperature bath fluid to 230 ±5ºF (110 ±2.8ºC). Let sensor temperature stabilize
for at least five minutes.
(7) Using the wheatstone bridge, measure the resistance between terminals A and B, and
terminals B and C. Simultaneously measure the temperature of the fluid in the
temperature bath. Plot the resistance measured versus temperature on the graph shown
in Figure 7 and Figure 8; the intersection point shall lie within the shaded area.
C. Test Results
(1) A unit that meets all the requirements of the test procedure may be put into service.
(2) A unit that fails to meet all of the requirements of the test procedure should be replaced.
The unit cannot be repaired.

3. Disassembly
Not applicable.
4. Cleaning
B. Carefully remove any foreign matter around thermistor beads and electrical terminals using a soft-
bristle brush moistened with solvent (refer to Table 2).
Type Application
* Although Gensolv 2004 is more astringent than isopropyl alcohol (and may therefore be more
effective in stubborn grease-based situations), it is not miscible with water. Therefore, a final
cleaning with isopropyl alcohol may be desirable – particularly where moisture contamination is
present.
5. Check
D. Check electrical terminals for missing screws or lock washers and for damaged, stripped or
crossed threads.

6. Repair
NOTE: These are the only repair procedures applicable to this unit.
A. If nameplate requires placement, stamp new nameplate by transcription from original or from
service records.
NOTE: Replacement nameplates may be obtained from Honeywell ASCa Inc. under P/N CS308.
C. Replace any missing or damaged screws and/or lock washers. Replacement screws are
cadmium-plated brass 4-40 slotted pan head, 0.25 inches (0.635 cm) long. Replacement lock
washers are MS35333-36.
B. Since this unit is not designed to be disassembled, the only procedures applicable under this
heading are those pertaining to storage. The following procedures refer to storage and shipping.
(1) For storage or shipment, place temperature sensor in a sealed padded carton; a desiccant
must be included (refer to Table 3).
(2) The temperature sensor may be stored for an indefinite period within the temperature
range of –40°F to +165°F (–40°C to +73.9°C).
Not applicable.

which do involve a change in spare parts and/or technical data.
Series numbers are assigned in numerical order (starting with

Provision may be made on the nameplate or on a separate modification plate for the identification of retrofitted minor
changes. These changes do not affect interchangeability of the unit but may affect spare parts and/or technical data.
These changes may be made out of sequence and are therefore separately identified. Accordingly, the notation "2"
stamped in the slot would indicate the incorporation of "Change 2" but would not indicate the incorporation of "Change 1"
unless the notation "1" also appeared.
