Translated user needs into solutions by providing GIS support for 75 parks in an 11-state region as a member of the
Intermountain Geographic Resource Information Management Team. Fluid nature of position afforded hands-on experience
with GIS workflows, spatial analysis, data organization, projections & datums, database management, and a multitude of
vector and raster data formats modeling biological & cultural resources, boundaries, infrastructure and more. Typical projects
included: generation of thematic maps for park management, creation of Internet Map Service (IMS) maps, updating NPS Data
Store Metadata, digitizing paper maps and standardizing symbolization for multi-map projects using ESRI’s Style Manager.
• Traveled to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Arizona to assist with a ground-penetrating RADAR project investigating
unexcavated cultural resources of the Ancient Sonoran Desert People. Documented location, size and shape of the team’s
RADAR grids with sub-meter accuracy utilizing a Trimble GeoXT. Assessed objectives, created data dictionary, configured
receiver, collected GPS data, edited, differentially corrected, exported to Shape and wrote metadata.
• Worked closely with an NPS wildlife biologist to define a Protected Activity Center (PAC) to preserve the Mexican Spotted Owl’s
habitat in Mesa Verde National Park. Based on the biologist’s criteria, I analyzed DEM and vegetation data to identify the owl’s
habitat using 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst and ArcGis Toolbox. Created a 1:24,000 poster-sized map that informed stakeholders’
decisions in designating the PAC area. Heads-up digitized final PAC polygons. Finalized Geodatabase, including applicable
datasets, and wrote FGDC metadata.
