STENA RECYCLING - STEEL PLATFORMS

STRUCTURAL DESIGN CALCULATION NOTES

I. INPUT DATA
One must determine the safe live load for two work platform s, platform 1 and 2, according to the
sketches of the existing platform s (see Annex 4 and Annex 5).
One will use an itterative process in order to determ ine the safe live load.
The safe live load will be calculated for platform 1 only, while for platform 2, an equal safe live
load will be considered, as a conservative measure.

II. SUMMARY OF THE ANALYSIS

According to the analysis of the two platforms it has been concluded that the safe live
load for platforms 1 and 2 is 2.5kN/sqm (250 kg/sqm).
The connections between the platforms and the concrete wall are done using HILTI
HST M16 anchors.

IV. MODELLING CONSIDERATIONS

The platform is considered to be com posed of three fram es, connected one to each other by
secondary beams. On top of the beams is a checkered steel plate sheet onto which uniform ly
distributed surface loads act. On the edge of the platform opposite to the supports is a handrail onto
which a linear horizontal live load acts.
For calculating the main and secondary beam s, the welded connections between the steel
sheet and the beams are neglected, as a conservative measure.
The static scheme and the diagrams for bending mom ent, shear force and axial force are in
annex 1 of the report.

Comments: Tension displacements are valid with half of the required installation torque moment for uncracked concrete! Shear displacements
are valid without friction between the concrete and the anchor plate! The gap due to the drilled hole and clearance hole tolerances are not
included in this calculation!

The acceptable anchor displacements depend on the fastened construction and must be defined by the designer!

7 Warnings
Load re-distributions on the anchors due to elastic deformations of the anchor plate are not considered. The anchor plate is assumed to be
sufficiently stiff, in order not to be deformed when subjected to the loading!
The design method ETAG (filled holes) assumes that no hole clearance between the anchors and the fixture is present. This can
be

achieved by filling the gap with mortar of sufficient compressive strength (e.g. by using the Hilti Dynamic Set) or by other suitable means
The accessory list in this report is for the information of the user only. In any case, the instructions for use provided with the product have to
be followed to ensure a proper installation.
The design method fib (07/2011) assumes that no hole clearance between the anchors and the fixture is present. This can be achieved by
filling the gap with mortar of sufficient sompressive strength (e.g. by using the Hilti Dynamic Set) or by other suitable means.
The compliance with current standards (e.g. EC3) is the responsibility of the user
Checking the transfer of loads into the base material is required in accordance with fib (07/2011)!
